Not sure how old Firefight is.

I only know it was a design that Matrix Games might have been interested in initially, doesn't seem like it now.

And as they have apparently given the Close Assault forum the boot off the site, it is possible they are losing interest even further.

But considering it was supposed to come out after Combat Leader, and you would not be over reacting if you thought that that meant it was coming out slightly after never Smile

Therefore, Firefight will likely remain a game a few know, but only a few ever saw.

It runs ok, just looks incredibly bad when measured against its relevant equals in its genre.

CM is just one of three must have classics.

The three would be likely Close Combat series, Coimbat Mission series and Steel Panthers series.

I depends on who you ask which is the better. And all of them were made by people trying to make Advanced Squad Leader into a computer game.

There are lots of games out there, but I doubt you will find more active modders and scenario makers for any other game.

That is indeed the game on sale through Matrix Games. Well it might still be on sale. One never knows any moire with this game.

What is not well known, is Firefight is also something of a bastard child over there. They almost don't want to acknowledge it ever existed it seems.

It has no forum, and most of the forum is not even aware the game exists.

I believe what that link leads to , is the same as what is termed in some locations as a demo.
The link has a setup file there and it lets you play the game such as it is.

Alright enough game, no competition for Close Combat, but it has a humble amusing level of complexity.

Those prices are as brain dead as the prices I see for ASL modules.

59 bucks for CC3, are they nuts.

For 59 bucks you get a cd with the original label and a nice box and a manual.
Wow, makes me over joyed.

I think downloading it from Bi-Torrent in this one case might be more intelligent.
No original label on cd no box and no manual.
But you also don't end up paying 59 bucks for a long in the tooth wargame either.

The trilogy must only be expensive because of CC3.

I can't recall any one specific comment, but I don't think anyone has ever said CC3 was even the best CC of the mix.

Well know him to see him that is, assuming you are like so many, and you might read the sports section hehe.
Probably see him more than I do these days.

Doubt you will have encountered me though. I'm a 4 hour drive west.

My time in uniform was back in 79.

Well I hope I blend in.

Plays well with others, would not define me this last year.

Just noticing some details of the forum.

Looks like owner might actually know family, assuming he reads the Ottawa Sun. The sports editor is my brother. Tim is also 100% different frm me Smile

We grew up as Felix Uger and Oscar Madison. Damn near perfect match too.

I spent a bit of time up in Petawawa as an RCR grunt.

Looks like the forum here is fairly young though.
Considering how good it looks, I would have thought it had been around a good while.
Mooxe must have his shit straight or something.

Ok that's two posts in one day, I am already past quota.

I joined mainly for the downloads, partly because the forums looked good, and a bit because I like Close Combat enough to need a decent community to aid in my enjoyment of the game.

I'm not a CC veteran, and likely won't be responding to requests for a game any time soon.

Only posting, because joining a forum and not even saying hello is sort of rude.

And I know rude.

I am going to do my very best at never saying anything, and likely fail miserably.
I am an old wargamer that has a sharp tongue and a rough opinionated manner that usually pisses off people.
So the less I say I suppose the better for us all myself included.

Ok I did the right thing and gave myself a post count total of one.
Here's to me shutting up now Smile

In August of 2004, Zappi, Homba, Bambam887, RedScorpion and MOOXE all pitched
in to create this Close Combat site. I would to thank all the people who have visited and
found this site to thier liking. I hope you had time to check out some of the great Close Combat
mods and our forums. I'd also like to thank all the members of our volunteer staff that have
helped over the years, and all our users that contributed to this site!
