Ah, digitalized archives are wonderful! I found a post in which there are links to Det. Kuhlmey's support requests in Karelia 1944:

In 1944 at Tali-Ihantala and Vuosalmi battlefields air support was used "orchestrated" with heavy artillery fire. Both FiAF and Detachment Kuhlmey were used to attack advancing tanks, bridges, tarnsports etc. Area commander of FiAF, Col Richard Lorentz, and Kurt Kuhlmey got along well and co-operation had no friction. Lorentz had good relations with Radio Intelligence wizard Col Reino Hallamaa and he had first hand information on enemy movements. When support request came, Lorentz already had a plan for the need. |

Oh yes, since CC3 smokerounds have been the last resort to a mortar team. For some reason they don´t use them by initiative?? Any visuals of this?

Finnish Army recruited civil convicts (a full pardon was promised in return for good performance in battle) to Er.P.21 (Sep. Battallion 21) aka "Black Arrow" commanded by the legendary Maj. Nikke Pärmi. Pärmi was an ex-convict himself (for manslaughter and general misbehauviour!) and had an exceptional psychological eye. All imported recruits didn't satisfy him and he returned many back to forced labour camps. Burglars and safety box specialists became pioniers and murderers had "always a job to do" according to Pärmi. However, he had later many good reasons to be very proud of his men, murderers, rapists and all.
