Many thanks for the mod! I've tried, and I'm currently playing a grand campaign as the Soviets (on GOG version), and all works well for the moment. I'm no big player, but the mod seems balanced to me.

Well, it's a long time I didn't intervene here but I do agree with OP's opinion, at least on the mods I've tested: 1946, PITF and A-Shau. RTC works very well as you said. I don't know where the other mods are available. A-Shau is the most stable but there's no campaign in my game except for the original ones.

IDF and 38 Yankee are a mess to install. One doesn't know which files to keep and which ones to put aside.

All these mods except for RTC seem unfinished and not fully tested to me. Reading the forum makes me think that Bel hops from one project to another without totally finishing his mods.

I learned with your topic of the existence of Just Cause and Reforger. They do look interesting indeed.

I use the GOG version on Linux with Wine and it works, contrary to CC5 which doesn't install properly and doesn't launch with no solution in sight.

I don't want to disrespect the modders but GTC is way superior to CC4 or CC5 and I would prefer getting more finished mods for the former. BTW I'm not against a small PayPal donation as a way to support a modder's work.

PS: I don't use Facebook, etc, and don't plan to then my sole source of CC information are forums.

So now one have to pay for window$ after buying a computer. I thought micro$oft preferred the computers to be sold bundled with their OS so people have no other choice than using their OS, and then some of their software and services.
Seriously, get a linux distribution and stop this madness !

Thanks for all these videos! There's a few innacuracies (especially on the Kursk one) but great combat and newsreel footage!

The new screenshots look great!

It's amazing how CC still live after all those years, and that new interesting mod ideas emerged and are in the way to become reality.

Now back to the old CC3 with DOF mod! Very Happy

The only problem of these SU's are the lack of turret. So it's better to hide them in a place with good cover and from where they can retreat fast to a secure place.
Always check LOS and use "sneak" to retreat to the protected place, and use smoke or infantry (or even an AT gun of lower caliber) to distract the Panzers if necessary!

Maybe assault in a covered place where you infantry can gain terrain while not being exposed a lot to tank fire, and attract their tanks in open spaces or defilades where hidden SU-100s wait for the kill.

As ANZAC noted, it's not only a question of weapons, but a question of tactics too.
Add that in the BoB maps, the distances in open terrain aren't that big usually and there are numerous places to hide your guns. (Unlike some CC3 maps where you can rule the map with one Ferdinand and one Panther or so...)

In CC3 Panzer VIB's are though nuts, in CC4 or CC5 Ardennes mods too (even if 76mm shermans can help), but in CC5 BoB they aren't that invincible.

I explain why: Russians have superiority in numbers, including tanks, so in the campaign playing a war of attrition pays sooner or later. Of course, minimizing your losses and gaining experience is always good, but less important than in other mods IMO.

And my best advice would be to use a pair of T34-85s or possibly a T34-85 coupled with a JSII. The T34-85s have a good gun (with a good reload time too) and good mobility, contrary to the Panzer 6 that possesses an excellent gun but is really slow. So hit and run tactics must work.
The JSII has an excellent gun (I killed some Panzer VIB's and Panzer V's at 500m at first shot...) and good armour, but is slow too, and worse, has a slow reload time. Of course, it's still an useful weapon, but not the best choice in this case IMO.
Of course, in the defence, 100mm guns (AT ot SU's) are a good choice, but in attack or meeting engagement I personnaly prefer tanks.

Well, I think Panthers are far more dangerous because of their better mobility. The Seelow Heights map makes me nightmares, and the only way I have of often to grind them down a bit (at the price of horrible losses), then to fall back on the town where heavy infantry and artillery can do real damage, while cutting them from supplies with my other battlegroups that usually progress at a good pace.

Don't forget to use these SU76's in cramped places too! OK, they're very lightly armoured but their gun is good to kill medium tanks, and good to kill infantry too, and they have excellent mobility. They are my preferred weapon to support infantry in forested areas and in town. Some infantry with light Mgs or engineers teams and a SU76 can be a killer team in towns.

LOL. Apparently cheery isn't playing it until it's data is perfect, in English, and can only be played with a new laser mouse.

Haha. I mean't that there are so numerous bugs, that it isn't fun to play. Also spanish language isn't comparable to any other european language, so it's impossibl to even try to understand it.

Sorry man, but that's one of the most ignorant rants I've heard here, where people seem to have actually a bit of knowledge (contrary to a lot of forums...).

Do you know of latin languages? Spanish is close to italian and portuguese, as already stated, but to french and rumanian languages.

It's like with german language and dutch/flemish, and even english to some extent, etc.

What about the Winter War mod? I dont find it that easy, even on the Russian side, where your numerous infantry seem to miss most of the time, while the Finns kill them at an alarming rate. Add mostly light armour that you must use cautiously to avoid AT guns and infantry with grenades - no King Tigers here that can destroy everything at all distances, only T-26s and BTs that are really efficient but fragile too... And the Finns have their chances too... (I mostly play the attacking side when playing to CC).

It is the same with Khalkhin-Gol, which is even harder, especially on the released version where you can't cut enemy BGs from supplies with your fast armored or motorized BGs like in Winter War.

I finally installed the game. I've began a campaign with Russians and the little BG composition changes are good for what I've played until now (most battles of the first turn).
And well, Russian infantry seems to perform better, and I got some unexpected victories, like on Orlovka where with arty (and air support that did nothing), the medium AT gun and some assault infantry, I got four AFVs out of five and a major russian victory, when I was expecting at best a minor victory (infantry vs armour on semi-open terrain isn't exactly the best way for an easy victory in this case).

I do the same, and I assure you that it's always useful to have this kind of weapon in the end of a harsh battle, when ammo from guns, MG's and mortars are at a low level, or sometimes equal to zero, and the enemy launches an attack or you have to rush for a weel-defended VL...

For example, in SDK for CC5, the Katyuschas helped me more than once. In CC3 it helped me, I don't find them that effective (but I mostly play CC3 modded and not regular). Same in CC4 (be it german or US rockets).

Or make a mod with less tanks or less powerful tanks, like KHALKIN GOL or Winter War. Of course, an experienced player will win versus the AI, yet it won't be an easy ride.

Thanks for the awesome photos! These remind me the ones from a WW2 enclopaedia my parents have at home and that I used to read frequently when younger and sometimes even now when I visit them. So thanks for the nostalgia you've created!

Is yours from the 70's too?

All in all, a great topic! Smile

That's why I was dubious, even if the advices of the french instructor may have not spawned from the mouth of an inexperienced man.

Many thanks for your links though! The first one makes me want to try CCM one of these day!
