I am not sure about colour coding as such, but I have worked with some WWII era "Storpedoes" during my time in the RAAF . My understanding is that ours haven't changed since WWII (and some of the chutes are dated from 1942-43).

In short the medical storpeadoes would get a silk chute whereas non medical supply ones have a brown hessian chute. The idea is that the medical containers needed to land softer.

Oh and as a side not the containers are all packed identically, so all containers would contain ammo, food and blankets etc. SO that no matter what container you found you got something you needed. After all it would suck if had plenty of food and the ammo container went missing.

Hope that helps.

Hey Lordy, while I can see your point, 3 days isn't two weeks. Unfortunate circumstance isn't moving house job or whatever where notice could have been given and ashort halt organised. Also you are missing a lot of the background goings on that drives a lot of the attitude of Pzt towards this thing, I won't go into it here but it was painful.

Yes I voiced some complaints during the Merc ANZAC war regarding the MOD not neccesarily the op when we played, and in hindsight that showed some poor sportsmanship - I am big enough to admint that (After all part of the outcomes of that war were to test the mod). There was some other nastiness involved with the Corona-ANZAC war that we needn't bring up here, needless to say as you ponted out, we got over it all and finished the op which turned out to be a gut wrenching nail biter in end (at least for me).

On the other hand Bjorne took off leaving no chain of command nor direction for 2 weeks then came back to the forums wanting a fight. Wruff had already posted in the 7A forums asking for a fight for days before we called it off due to lack of interest, also the next clan war was already knocking. Not to mention his BS remark regarding that "PZT quit the OP" etc.

These are different circumstances L4W lets not drag other clan wars etc into this. There is no need for you to get involved in this dude, Bjorne brought all this garbage back up, not us and certainly not you.

If by "quitting the field" you mean ending the op after it stalled for weeks with 6 days to go due to a no show by your guys with no warning, and no orders for those blokes who were around, then sure Pzt quit the field.

Truth is this OP was an abortion to begin with. it became obvious after the first battle that the German side (we were given no option to choose which side we wanted) couldn't hope to hold back the fleet of armoured BG's stacked from the front to the channel and we did well to hold things together as long as we did.

We weren't being outplayed - we were being flogged by Bjorn's ridiculous OP, but then he disappears leaving us high and dry, sorry bloke but we could only stand the pain of dealing with your idiocy so long.

Wruff decided to end the pain and stupidity by moving on to our next war with someone who at least can find their arse with both hands.

Pzt has lost their fair share of Team ops and has done so with honor, you sully yourself by making your silly claims of victory by posting one sided AAR's so long after we told you to get fucked.

I had this problem when I first got my new system, also a dual core. I managed to fix the problem by ensuring I had it set in compatibility mase (win98) and rolled back my Nvidia drivers to an odler version.

Infantry tactics is failry largish area of study, and your best bet is to start reading a few decent books on the subject.

Suffice to say that tactics rely on a few key features:
Terrain
Doctrine
Technology

You can't use the same tactics in close country (like the Jungle) that you would use in ope terrain. 10 meters or so in the Jungle is a long way, while standing shoulder to shoulder in open terrain is a great way to lose a whole section fast.

Also two nations with the same level of technology will not follow the same doctrine, nor for that matter will services under one nation. The Brits and Yanks do things differently to each other, and the US Marines do things differently to the US Army.

Here's some quick numbers to think about too (all numbers are rough and ready).

Wellington's Army at Waterloo fielded 20000 men per mile

The US civil war saw this decline to 12000 men per mile, with confederate armies repelling attacks with as few as 5000 men per mile.

The Boers held a line of some 7 miles with around 4500 men (around 650 men per mile)

The Great War saw the number push back up as the main sectors were defended by the Germans with between 3000 - 4500 men per mile including local reserves, excluding logistics personnel and strategic reserves.

The great war also featured the battalion as the basic unit, however by the end of the war the basic unit became the company as more sophisticated tactics were employed.

In Africa in 1940 the numbers again plummeted with Tobruk's 30 mile perimeter being held by approxamately 800 men per mile.

God4saken,

It's a delicate issue you are debating here. Having served in the ADF for a number of years I would assume that there are some requirements for getting your name on that wall. If Kovco qualifies then the debate is over, and Billings opinion is just that. If not then the respective agancy should not bend the rules just because of the circumstances of his death and the subsequent events as it cheapens the meaning of it all.

One thing to remember is that the 3rd BTN has been in the press a number of times in recent years for less that sterling behaviour and the Army has a lot to answer for over the Kovco affair.

One good thing about serious study into military history is that it strips away the layers of myth. Australia has a long history of making grandiose claims of the perfromance of it's armed services throughout the years, often glossing over gross incompetence and objective fact.

Cheers,

I had this issue as well on a resonably new PC. I tried everything:

Compatibility mode
DX disabled
updated drivers
resolution settings

And I still couldn't get the damn game to work, I had to reboot after EVERY game.... very annoying Evil or Very Mad

Are you kidding? Der Untergang (The Downfal)l movie I watched portrayed Hitler as a delusioned and sad little man in the waning days of power. There was no glory portrayed there unless your a neo Nazi on drugs.

No sir, The Downfall did not gloryify that period in history at all, at least not as I see it.

As for glossing over details, lets not forget the attrocities that the Allies perpetrated and fail to hail long and hard about. The fire bombing of Dresnen, Nagasaki, turing a blind eye to the holocaust etc.

I am keen to see these movies none the less, thanks for the heads up.

Ive got an interesting byline to the dambusters story, during the early 30s, there was a young Englishman by the name of George Heathershaw. He was a brilliant up an coming mechcanical engineer. However his political leanings lent him to believe what was happing over in Germany, should be repeated in England, and so he became a brown shirter. When war broke out, and George was in London the Authority's grabed him. George was put to work for rolls merlin and eventually he worked on the dambusters lanc's. Apparently the motors where given more torque for a lower rev. I presume to reduce noise and be able to have a lower stall speed (fly slower). After the war George was given 24 hours to leave England. He ended up in Indonesia and after 20 years or so had a huge engineering factory with 300 odd employees.. then the country was nationalised and George was once again kicked out with nothing. He ended up in Australia by now a broken man, he died only a few years ago on a little bannana farm on the north coast, i rebuilt the old bannana shed into a reasonable abode for the old gentleman, at the behest of his daughter, who by the way is a doctor in the local town... quiet an intersting story to me and shows that intellect does not allways let you exceed, and that life is a gamble...

In those days political leaning meant a lot regardless of ability.

From what I hear Peter jackson is bit of a historian, so hopefully he won't succumb to "holywoodizing" the story.

He's also a keen wargamer and commisioned a line of 54mm scale miniatures for one of his armies.

Those are al valid points Mooxe, but not what I was getting at. Every Russian team should have the full 7 men.

Thats been one of my big beefs with this mod. The german teams are all maxed out on numbers, morale and attributes, while the russians get smaller numbers (why???) poor morale and attributes.

IMHO since you cannot change the number of teams the Russians should get bigger teams, mortar sections (2 tubes per section) machinegun sections etc.
