120 views and not a single person online in Game Ranger on my side of the planet.

Why are people asking if CC is dead, clearly this place and it both have gone the way of the dodo.

The community will stay alive until they release a 3-D non Top Down Close Combat. Then the actual Close Combat fans will leave, leaving only the Call of Duty Close Combat fans who want the game to be 3d and to win a beauty contest. That is when Close Combat and its real community will die, which may be very near in the future. Afterwards there will be a community claiming to be Close Combat, but it won't be, and anyone with half a brain will know it to be true.

PostForum: The Mess   Posted: Mon Aug 05, 2013 2:43 am   Subject: Soundmod for CoI/WaR/TLD/LSA starting WIP, Have a few ?s.
Hey guys,
I've been playing CoIDoF2 with the plugin to play as Germans vs the AI. It includes an excellent sound mod(although some of the sounds are just a bit loud). Unfortunately it doesn't appear that this mod is in the works anymore. Which is a shame, to me, because good sound brings you that much more into the game.

Having said all that, I am looking to get a sound mod together using sounds that well sound good. I especially like the way the mod in DoF2 uses the correct amount of shots fired in sound, as the game mechanic for that weapon. And all of that leads to this question. I am assuming here that sounds from CoI or anyother CC platform, are not compatible? In other words there are slight changes that make moving the sounds from CoI to say LSA more than a copy paste adventure.

My goal is to create a sound mod, that will be a standard for all versions of the game, that uses the correct shots heard for the shots fired in game. I want the weapons to sound the same throughout, ie a Kar 98K sounds the same in CoI as it does in LSA/WaR/TLD ect. My main concern is this, is the reason why this hasn't been done because it can't be done? I hope not, and even if it does take a bit of work, I intend to eventually have this working. If nothing else because I'm tired of hearing the sfx from the original Call of Duty. They never sounded good, in that game, and they never sounded good in this game. In all my years of video gaming, I have never understood why it is so hard to make decent sounds(Like watching a Military movie and seeing all the little things that someone in Basic Training can tell you is wrong, you know the little mistakes I mean, they have advisers but never get SOP right. I would advise them for free so my SOP doesn't flare up in the middle of a movie).

My goal, would be to use one of the current mods, more than likely the CoI version, as a base(the sounds for German weapons are just excellent and hold them over for all platform versions). The only difference between the version would be who the Germans are shooting at. So in the LSA version the German sounds would be the same files, while the only changes would be to add new American and British weapon sounds. In a day and age where everyone and their mother, including unfortunately CC fans, are talking about graphics(ugh), I plan to revamp the re-releases with a breath of new sound, which will pull you more into a simulated battle than pretty colors will any day of the week.

Anyone that has experience in sound modding for CC please give any advice you can, and point the way towards the correct software tools that I will need. To be honest, this sound mod is for me, and am approaching it with that mindset. But I understand there may be others out there who might greatly appreciate this, and so once there is something to share with you, it will be done. Thank you for the read.

I don't think it would. Then again, I'm probably the only guy on these forums that doesn't like the current strategic map system. My preference is for a much more fluid system like they had in Achtung Panzer, or just doing it the way they did it in Panzer Corps (which didn't have a strat map, but did allow you to change the flow of the campaign).

Either way, we've had static strategic map and 2d graphics. Now it's time to move into the 21st millenium.

Again, the game needs updating. The reason few people play this game is because it's been out-performed by competitors. 3d graphics, better AI, better UI, more engaging gameplay etc...

But I'm not a programmer.

A big developer probably could do a lot of things - but Matrix/BlackHandStudios aren't big developers. They have to work on one or two things at a time. For example, PitF only really gave us 3d graphics and a new force pool system.

Close Combat is such a mess now, so many versions with different features spread through all of them. Bugs that have been around for years. No real progression after 13 years.......

Exactly. Agree 100%.

This was my point a few posts back. We haven't seen the Series progress - that's why every one of us has a different CC game that's their favourite. Every CC game has its pros and cons - but none are truly "superior" to the others. It's preference as to which ones are better than others.

Whereas, we should be seeing a gradual improvement in the games. We should be able to say "CC3 was good back in the day, but the latest game is clearly superior", but you can't. You can't say any game in the Series is better than the others, because they're not. And that's proof that the Close Combat Series hasn't been improving. It's just remained pretty much the same as it was in the 90's.

Yes, you are the only person to not like the biggest improvement to the series since selecting the troops you can take into battle, simple as that.

If you are picking up CC at any point in time ever, and I do mean ever, and you are expecting to be wowed by the graphics, you clearly do not know CC, nor would you be the type of people that CC appeals to. Saying they need better graphics is the same argument that console users use for their kiddy video games. Its why movies suck now, all graphics and no substance. You, and people who think like you, are going to ruin a game series that has stood for almost twenty years now. CC will be nothing more than CoD, all graphics and no substance, and it took a big leap in that direct with PiTF. It will continue to make leaps everytime someone suggest they should drop the Top-Down and go full 3-D. Lose that, and you lose CC. Period. It would kill the series, and I would much rather it died in Top-Down, than in 3-D bastardizing the name Close Combat.

Hey guys just getting back into CC and the re-releases.

I have the latest patches/BETAs of CoI(DoF2 mod), WaR, TLD, & LSA. I don't currently have PitF, but hope to in the future.

Anyways, I will be playing GCs, at the moment I'm hoping for a LSA GC, whatever platform it is, it will be an open GC ie, other people will play the "public" side.

I don't know what settings need to be for GCs, I'm assuming for LSA it needs to be Allied:V(To give fewer units while giving more time for bridges) Axis:R/G(To give a boost to troop levels/morale), with force morale on 20/25 minute battles.

I am CST and will be on for most of the day for a while. My handle in GameRanger is KGB0806, I normally host under a LSA room, so if you don't see a room look for me, and PM me. If I am not already in a H2H battle, I will be playing the AI in one of the platforms. It may take multiple times give me a second.

Hope to see you guys on the battlefield, I miss playing CC online, and am itching to get back into the fight. Good luck gentlemen, I will see you in Close Combat.

This will kill the series, CC3 system worked because we had never had the map before. Now that we have it CC3/COI are nice little games, but nothing compared to CC4/5/WaR/TLD/LSA.

I think Matrix has finally milked CC for all the money they could make on it, now they are looking to cash in on just the name, which is apparently the only thing the new games will carry.

I want new CC games, I want a larger Strategic map, a viable AI, the END OF THE TAKING COVER CANCEL ORDER BULLSHIT (Absolute worst thing Matrix has done to the series), I want to fight somewhere other than Normandy (Afrika/Italy/Poland/France/Rus(though Rus would have to be a large game with multiple addons or w/e to add more GCs)), I want more of a variety of vehicles along with the upgrade refit option ala CC3/CoI rather than an automatic throw units around.

The next two games announced are absolutely nothing I want, why do Caen? We have GJS out the wazoo on multiple version of the new releases, plus TLD GC covers that area as well. If anything do the entire Op Overlord, from landing to breakout. Say from June 6-August something. If you absolutely have to be in Normandy again, do it that way.

And for the love of all that is good and mighty if they do in fact go to a "3D" engine ala CoH Combat Mission ect, I won't buy it, and it will be the death of the CC series. Anything from that point on will just be CC in name, and nothing else. I can't believe they would even think about it after the FPS CC in the early 2000s.

The most depressing thing just happened.

I read a post on CCS about a CC game, and it was centered on graphics, and worse on 3D graphics.....

CC is dead, God save CC! Never thought I'd live to see the day the CC community would want 3D graphics. The top-down is CC, period. Like the gun barrell before the Bond movie(yes I know, they are twits, they should put it back). Cool with improving that, but I will not buy a non top down CC. It won't be CC, just something with its name slapped on to get money, ala the amazing FPS we got years ago.

And I didn't realize that the only Theater to see combat/action/War was Normandy. Marvelous.

While COI and its never ending LOS isn't exactly my flavor (Don't ask why I bought it, I guess I'm an idiot Very Happy) and the fact that the GC to me just isn't as engaging as War and LSA and TLD with the ability to control where the next battle is (given, there probably no way to do it that way). And that's not mentioning the machinegun deadly accurate mortars.

I guess what I am saying, and this might hurt your feelings because believe it or not, I remember you from the Case days (in fact I'm sure I played you a quite few times, don't remember my name in it though) and I know CC3/COI is your favorite, I'm just not that big on it. I expected more than just updating the code. The only aspect thats different from it that I do enjoy, is the points system in which you pick units. Wish they would not have done away with that, but oh well.

I've been busy as of late, school is starting back up (not a student work for the College) and things have gotten busy again. I'll be around when I'm able and if we are on at the same time we can play. But I'm not a fan of ops either, and have always been leery of custom made map ops for online play. I am certainly not suggesting you rig them, by any means. Yet it is indeed something that picks at the back of my brain.

Oh well, I guess in the CC world we are all beggars and we can't be choosers.

Oh God, Zone Cases Ladder. That, that brings back old old memories.

Oh I'm sure hes a great opponent. But there is absolutely no chance that one player that I might play once, will determine the realism settings for MY entire online GC.

Stickler for the old rules I guess.

Yep for anyone that wants to play it will be 100% realism. As I am going to be the one playing the GC all the time, and other players will be playing against me, the rules will be what I want. Thats just how it was in the old days of multiplayer gaming.

I can't ever imagine playing the game without 100% realism. Thats like watching the Pre-Game to the Super Bowl and turning it off. Or getting head and stopping before full blown sex. Crazy things have apparently happened over the years I have been gone.

EDIT: The thing that terrifies me about Tigers post, only one other person plays like that. Ugh, why even play the game if you aren't going to play it the way it was intended. Its like those people who buy a game, and cheat to beat it. Not any fun at all.

Hey guys. Have been getting back into CC here lately again.

I'm going to be on Game Ranger in the afternoons and evenings (CST) to play GCs for CC: TLD, WaR, LSA, CoI. The first will assist in the team picks and settings.

Just to let those who check and want to play. It will be labeled, "GC LSA/WaR/TLD/CoI your choice MUST HAVE LATEST PATCHES!", my handle is "KGB0806". Please have the latest patches from Matrix.

Hope to see some of you on the battlefield!

People should upgrade to CC CoI, if CC3 is holding back further development of CoI.

Again if that be the case dump CC3.

A fellow and I have begun playing a GC with the new MEGA patch.

Axis: Green : Opponent

Allies: Veteran : Myself

100% Realism

15 mins
Force Morale OFF
VL Taken
2 Min Warning

I will report on our progress. But so far it seems to be working fine. I'm a little confused as to how its to easy for the Allies to win. Even multiple battles against the AI, most of the bridges get blown well before I'm anywhere close to them. But of course I play on Hero against the AI. Regardless, a minimum effort should prevent the allies from securing just about any bridge they need. Therefore making it a pain in the neck for the allies to get anything done since those tanks are awfully hard to push, and those blasted Germans just won't kill themselves!

I thought making one-way maps could work, but as long as the full map falls on allied hands once it explodes, they'll have the exit VL to keep moving forward...

I'm a bit confused. How is the current GC unplayable? I'm not having any troubles playing it verses the Human, or the AI?

If you are unable to play the GC there is something wrong on your end.

Yes I agree the "seeking cover" thing is so frustrating that I may not have any hair left after a few GCs online. But this problem seems to be prevalent in all the Matrix re-releases. This was not an issue in the originals, so it is clearly some sort of code that they have added.

I wish I could find out what it is. I would remove it, and then post the patch here. Did they ever have a "reason" that they added this. I seem to remember that they argue that its a feature. But that can't be right.
