I've been plowing through the Command & Conquer Remaster which is basically the same exact series as Red Alert and it's Expansions. But with a 4K graphical upgrade made to look identical to the original when played at modern resolutions.
Why with all of these attempts to re envision Close Combat series as a new 3D game did nobody think to try just Remastering the Original. Weed out the bugs, upgrade the graphics and resolutions, while retaining the original working formula?

Also I've been checking out Mark Felton Productions. Pretty sweet videos about smaller scale zoomed in accounts of battles and skirmishes. I can't account for any accuracy of these channels. I watch for entertainment and accept the fact that any part of it could be inaccurate for all I know.
Mark Felton Productions told a story of a German Panther Tank ace which sounded eerily to a scenario in " Panzer Front " game Also based on a supposedly true events, in both account and tank aces names. As a result of the similarities I think one or both stories could have easily come from Nazi Propaganda of the day. |

I've dabbled in this channel for a year or so now.
I'd recommend TIK channel.
He's a former Close Combat player who makes an incredibly detailed WWII documentary series " battlestorm " Easily the best I've seen on youtube. |

I've been looking at this game called Steel Division that looks really interesting as an Close Combat series Vet. Not saying it looks similar but definitely might appeal to the same crowd, I'll probably pick it up as soon as there is a sale. |

Don't forget that the client does not see muzzle flashes, nor if I remember correctly do they see shreck/zook back blasts. Very severe disadvantage all around. Much worse I think than not seeing terrain changes.
So I just bought the GoG version. Do I have the fixes or no ? And can I use Qclone editor on the Newer fixed version of the game? |

Cool. I just bought Close Combat V on GoG and noticed right away that the music is different (don't like it). Which lead me here to ask the question, what else is different, what exactly did I buy? Is this the re made version with new code, or the old on. Bugs ( like guest not seeing muzzle flash ) still exist or no?
Also noticed that the CCIV I bought on gog has working scroll speed, whereas CCV still warps across the map when I touch the side of the screen. |

Off topic but if any of you guys ever wants to play an WWII based armoured combat game that is a true hidden gem. Well worth going far out of your way for, even if it means installing a PS1 emulator. Try Panzer Front for the original PS1.
If your at all into armoured combat from this era then dont go without having played this game.
It is a 1st/3rd person game that tries to stear towards full realism and rather than having a story at all, you get to choose from (theoretically ) historical battles to take part in ranging from early Barborosa to the apocolyptic streets of Berlin.
You'll be very impressed with what these Japanese devs did with such primative hardware. It wont be what you'd expect to find in a title from the PS1.
No health meters. Amazing ambiance, armor penatration physics, deflections, some damage ( Tracks / gun ) Huge variety of scenarios IE Michal wittman in villars bocage, or suprise attacking an allied unit at Bachmanns corner in a lone Panther (three models represented in game)
Or find yourself as a platoon commander with a platoon under your control participating in a large scale battle with many other allied and enemy platoons arriving and maneuvering on the battlefield in a believable fashion. And a limited number of artillary barrages under your controll.
Battles have infantry, AT guns, bunkers, air strikes etc. Some missions You have to support infantry assaults on enemy positions. And I've personally played out the scene from Fury 15 years before it was filmed. ( I know its fiction, I mean I've had to use the same tactics and even ram a Tiger to try and eliminate it at times )
It has one weakness, and that is an initial impression and default arcade mode that I can only rationalise was an economic/marketing necessity. It is an phony balony abomination of a campaign mode that appears shoe horned in and pinned over the face of this masterpiece in order to achieve sales/rentals from a broader audience by giving you space tanks with which to bulldoze arcade style. Just go straight to the options and set what you see intuitively, you'll know what to do when you see it and then choose "tactics" mode to play it as it was meant to be. You wont regret it.
Some of the battles are simple baptism missions or give you the upper hand, but many more are very challenging and will have you trying different stratagies for hours, trying and failing to hold some village or capture one. |

You know what would be a whizzbang idea, if someone just remade the game from scratch with all new AI and Pathing. Fuck all the 3D and fuck all the fancy shit. Just give me a top down Close Combat game that feels like the origional but has all the damn bugs worked out because they don't exist in the first place. Shit, that'd probably be a decent fucking game. Too bad that I'm busy working for a living.

Maybe market it as as mobile game, so people wont see it as archaic but just relevant to a lesser platform. This makes sense to me from more than one perspective. How else can they make enough money to support its development. |

All I want out of Windows 10 is directX 12, but as long as I can do without it I will.
What is even in it for the consumer/Windows 7 user? |

Not necessary to slow down your PC.
While the next time I tried to launch the game, the UAC virtualization option was greyed out and couldn't be turned on or off in the task manager leaving me with lightning fast scroll speed again, I did find yet another method that works, this time it seams reliable.
I tried running Close Combat V with Sandboxie. Even if I select "Run outside of Sandbox" with that program, it still gives me normal scroll speed, and nothing to do with my processor speeds.
One thing I've noticed is that when the game has the Windows shield Logo showing stamped on the CCV image in the Task bar, the scroll speed is nuts. But when you manage to launch the game without that Shield logo it's fine even without Sandboxie. So you've gotta have it running without administrator ... maybe? I haven't got it figured out 100% yet, but one thing is for sure, its not necessary to slow down your CPU clocks. |

I know this is going way back, but I'd just like to say I was messing around with CCV today and trying to solve a new problem that didn't used to exist on my current PC, when I accidentally solved the scroll speed problem. I know it's not the Windows Compatibility thing as that's the first thing anyone tries and I've tried it one million times If I've tried it once, and every which way.
All I did was right click on the CCV.exe process in the control manager and turn off/disable UAC virtualization. (btw spell check says virtualization is miss spelled)
The next time I launched the game, to my surprise, mouse scroll was at a normal speed.
Anyway the new problem I was trying to solve is that the game appears to play at about 1 frame/5seconds, and clickable menu's don't appear in combat, everything else appears to work normally, the battle rages on and I can move my troops and stuff, but can't actually see any of the menu's that you would click on to order them, just gotta know from memory where they are and stab in the dark. Weird, if anyone knows anything about this slideshow, please help. |

Textures do look CCIV don't they. That's one thing I've always hated about the newer Close Combat games is the change in texture ( and also the focus on armor combat with the infantry taking a back seat )
It's not that the textures are bad btw, it's just that the CCIV & CCV have a sort of trademark look that I like. |
