My CC1 disc is a Christmas ornament at this point... as a kid from the sixties growing up on military posts we had good old army men and bb guns... G.I. Joe and Major Matt Mason. Those and a fertile imagination... and well, do dirt clod wars count?

Squad leader... but in the early eighties I worked at a John Deere tractor supply that had an IBM system 23 with this kinda funky "star trek" game and my Dad had this "B-17 Bomber" game on his computer that kinda jazzed me up for computer games. But that first close combat game... whew... how many of you all still have your original disc?

Okay... so back into CC after a few years off and having a great time with the "new to me" maps and mods. Not even close to finishing them all. Heck, I'm still in CC2 land (GJS right now...). And Game Ranger? Pfft... that'll be awhile. I started CC1 back in the day... we had just received a computer station for work. The boss thought to get us this game to help familiarize us to the keyboard. Lost that job long ago, I've been hooked to CC ever since. I'm no coder or modder or even a history fanatic, but I dearly enjoy this game. And the oddball quibbling on the forums is humorous.  I thank you all!

p.s. I'm no snowflake and need no safe space, but some of y'all might learn manners in replying to others. Or not.

Ah, well a year and a half later and I still haven't done squat with "totalwar" Yeesh. Embarassed to say I still fumble through this "back-up" dealio.

Alrighty, I've joined Gameranger, but haven't gotten around to familiarizing myself with it. And I've always played against the A.I.~ never gone H2H. None of my friends own this game~ CC2 or any other CC game~ nor are they likely to start. I usually come to this site for the forums or advice or new maps (which, yes, I'm one of those who can just fumble through the Zeppo tool), but I wouldn't mind trying out H2H. Get my ass handed to me a couple hundred of times...
Any advice on starting? Slowly?
I'm blinddog14 on GR.
p.s. as an aside, I've been trying to figure out a way to donate to this site without using paypal. Any advice there?

Anybody ever taken one of these down? Holy cow!

I like setting up games as evenly on battlemaker, then playing both sides. But that damn king tiger is evil. Like shootin' bb's at a bull.

O.K, this is probably old biz for most of you hardened vets. I just learned about the red ammo boxes you might find laying about in some of the buildings~ which cleared up a question or two, but with a couple of add-ons~ Ramelle and Mustra~ I've had a couple of the same buildings blow without the aid of a red box. What am I missing? I've looked at the maps, but cannot discern any oddity.
Also, I've read mines were not a big factor in putting together CC2, but has anyone created a mine mod or plug-in or whatever?
thanks from a mule riding hillbilly,
the blinddog
p.s. If I shouldn't post under "forums", pls let me know...

Well hey there!

Anybody know what the "totalwar_zip.zip" file does? Have any of you all ever used it? Is it a fairly easy download for dummies?

(Remember, I ride a mule for a livin' and am not the most tech savvy peanut in the bag, but I can usually follow basic instructions...)

thanks and great gaming!

In August of 2004, Zappi, Homba, Bambam887, RedScorpion and MOOXE all pitched
in to create this Close Combat site. I would to thank all the people who have visited and
found this site to thier liking. I hope you had time to check out some of the great Close Combat
mods and our forums. I'd also like to thank all the members of our volunteer staff that have
helped over the years, and all our users that contributed to this site!
