I see the Cross of Iron is still running at 25 quid a piece.
Bit steep but I might splurge out when pay day comes. |

That did seem to help a little.
Now I can't find where I installed it. lol
I also let the directdraw run because it didn't run before when disabled. Was that the thing to do?
"can't access surface for lock" was the message I got when it was disabled |

Well, I've had it running at 98% and it still hasn't made a difference.
I've got dual intels at 4400.
Is that it then? I'll just have to use the arrow keys yeah? |

hello everyone
Just wanted to introduce myself. I've recently rediscovered this game. You see, my first encounter with close combat came when I first saw my college roomate playing it. I would go over to his room, and even though I wasn't playing, we both had a blast strategizing and battling. I'd go over to his room and play for hours.
Well, time passed and I forgot about the game. In that time, my gaming life took me through Age of Empires, Age of Mythology, Counter-Strike, and many others. Those were all good games in their own right, but none has ever given me the enjoyment and pleasure I got from Close Combat.
Now, after 5 years away, on a whim I remembered that long forgotten college war game and that has brought me back here and to CC.
I just want to say how happy I am that the game is still going strong, that the Modding community has added new additions to the game, and that its nice to see that other people share the same excitement about playing CC.
I'll have to relearn a lot about the game, but i'm looking forward to learning and to being an active member here in the forums.
Nice to meet everyone!
P.S. thanks to pz_jagger, dima, and all the others that have, from what i've read, created amazing mods. Can't wait to try them out!

Kinda the same for me here. I think I played for about 2 years solid online then realised that my girlfriend had dumped me after the first 6 months of that. A very rewarding game indeed.
It's a bit mind-blowing coming back after so much has changed but yet so little if you know what I mean. Gotta love the tension when everything is happening at once. |

Have you tryed adjusting the scroll speed in the *options* part of the game?.You can also adjust it in your control panel.
|
Not much effect if you're playing CC5 using a modern PC with gaming class graphics card.
I got used to using the keyboard arrow keys to navigate around the map.
The "heavy stapler on the CTRL key" method interferes with some of the hotkeys
|
Yup. Tried adjusting the scroll speed first.
The control key thing is not working much either. Having to use the arrow keys also. Bit of a pain really. I can't really get to were I want to go as fast as I want to go. Plus the old habit of scrolling is hard to break at first. |

Cheers for both pieces of advice.
I'll give both a good look at.
Let out the war cry for all to hear, "VISTA SUCKS". |

When I try to enter the main lobby for CC5 on GameSpy it says, "this program cannot display the webpage".
Someone game a link to a possible fix, so I might try this...

However if anyone else has had the same probs with Vista and managed to fix it please let me know. |

Cheers for this. I think I'll go with the heavy stapler option until the CSO situation gets resolved.
I tried the dxdiag program, but it wouldn't let me alter it. Roll on CC for Linux.
Just trying to get the gamespy thing together now. |

Oh aye... when I was on CSO I was sure that someone mentioned a cure for the fast scroll rate. Any tips appreciated. Something to do with a conversion program perhaps??? |

This was about to be a post for help, on installing Stalingrad, but the system advised me about running the Config Manager as Administrator. So that was nice.
I notice the plugin had 'gamespyarcade.exe' included with It. I took it out assuming this was the thing to do.
Anyway... every thing's cool so far. As you were... and all that jazz.

You still having to switch back to windows Talorgan?
If you want we could try and get a team together to work on it.
Pipe dreams really, but one has to dream. Otherwise the suicide rates would be enormous (more enormous I should say).
The first decision would probably need to be which CC version to work on to work on. |

the most recent updates to vista should have it working.
I just managed to get it going tonight. Hadn't tried for a while mind you.
Kinda don't want to get hooked again if you know what I mean.
Eh.... how does one solve the ridiculous scroll rate again? |
