VonB, nice work though. Andrew has sent me the link and if I can help just shout I have CC3 and COI but prefer COI. Basic programming experience with VB 2010 express and some delphi stuff. |

I believe a couple of mod conversions are in progress;
Bloody Omaha GJS Meuse
Though little has been said or shown. Maybe they won't get done but they have been started....
For Meuse I will posts screen shots to prove it is possible but I will not commit to releasing it. As I still have changes I would like to make (ex. night turns, weather, support maps, etc. and I was going to add or change some maps but the map maker who said he would make them has disappeared). Plus I have put in a lot of effort already into mods and in being a beta tester on the re-releases so when I hear/read some of the comments/feedback I wonder why bother if people don't appreciate the re-releases....

There are people which appreciate what you guys are doing so please don't worry to much and keep working on them ! |

While it would be great to have error free releases I can't see any of them. Every piece of software is updated today after release. Commercial software, games, even mods have updates and the difference is that some developer/publisher don't tell what they will fix and others like the developers of mods as well as the guys behind the recent CC re releases are communicating with the players and try to fix what is possible. |

Can't understand why you guys are promoting CC5 over CCTLD. There's no support where CCTLD and WaR has support and they will look into the problems and have a better chance to fix anything then with CC5, which was fine until they reworked the CC5 engine for WaR and TLD.
I would choose if you're more for infantry or armour. |

Maybe you need to run the setup program as administrator. I don't have the CD here but I assume there's a file called setup.exe on the root of the CD. Open the explorer and navigate to your CD drive. Select the setup.exe and open the context menu by using the right mouse button. Choose 'Run as administrator'.
Or if this don't help select the setup.exe and choose properties from the context menu. Select the compability tab and try to use Windows 95/98/2000/XP as the OS. |

While I agree about the death rate of mortars against ATG and open vehicles I don't see the same death rate when trying mortar against infantry.
For me the ideal solution would be to have it adjusted so that mortars death rate against ATG and open vehicles is more in line with the useless mortar against infantry. |

They will re-release CC2 first and I wouldn't call WaR or TLD crap. At least you don't have to worry about your D3D settings to get in running and some other nice additions. |

For me TLD is a hell of a good rerelease. No problems so far with Vista 64 bit. There are some small errors but overall much less problems then with WaR IMO.
I agree that the online stuff isn't good. But while I would like a better online client I'm patient enough and while I still enjoy TLD I'm looking forward to ABTF. At least they still update WaR as well as TLD which means some support the original games hadn't at the time they have been released.
And my hopes are that they gain enough money to really do a new one. And then maybe with some more online options like a dedicated server which can run on the internet and be remote operated. This way port forwarding isn't needed and all you need is internet access but from my point of view this is too much work for a simple rerelease that only tries to solve the most common bugs as well as get them some money.
My thoughts |

I still like the game. It has still some unique things which can't be found in other games.
But a re-release of CC5 would be welcome if we would have some perspective of what is planned/scheduled. A fixed CC5 next and then a real new build one with an engine that real gives new options ? Clouds/rain ? Some terrain profile feature ? Ability to load troops into small carriers and unload them ? Para troopers which will land first to get some more atmosphere (must not be something fancy. Select where you want to deploy your units and when you hit begin they will be on paras and landing (5 - 20 seconds lost in the first move for a newly landed BG).
Planes can be shoot at and can be destroyed ?
Maybe the ability to build sandbag barriers when a BG is in one tile for 2 moves without opponent contact?
Much better online client ?
There's a lot which could be done and which would give real some new. While the current re-releases are fine and they support and try to get rid of the bugs, it would be also great to have real new features |

Not sure what should be the big difference about XP Home and XP Pro network wise. The only difference I know is that the Home version is not able to join a Windows Domain which is ok for home PCs I think.
Maybe some additional share level restrictions.
To be honest I advise my friends to buy the home versions instead of the business versions because non of my friends have a windows active directory at home and therefor they can spare some money.
I'm not even sure if the vista ultimate version beats my vista business version. I don't miss anything with my version. Works like a charme with active directory networks and that's all I need |

So far I had one crash to desktop with the latest beta patch. Other then that it runs great in single player.
I can't say anything about the H2H stabilty.
With the given mod structure I would assume that more mods will be converted because WaR seeems much more stable then CC5 and has all the features of CC 5 or am I wrong ?
The only thing which is needed is a strat map editor if I'm not wrong. |

Schrecken, I don't want to whine but at the moment CC WaR can easily host a big numbers of mods due to the ease of adding mods. What I see is that BHQ Client config to launch a game specific mod must be changed as well as I can not see active games.
Is it possible to launch CCE.exe with parameters which tells that I'm a server or want to join ? |

OK I found the BHQ client here and registered as a user http://www.wargamer.com/battlehq/signup.asp.
Started the client and selected a lobby fine. BUT do I really have to set the launch parameters every time ? I'm coming from GPL (Grand Prix Legends) which is a 10 years old game too but the community driven multiplayer client is way more user friendly.
I would suspect that if I choose a multiplayer client for a given CC game it would connect a central server which maintains a list of started hosts so that I can see which hosts are already running. Then the client would in case of WaR scan for mod directories and compare this list with the already running hosts to determine which ones are avaialable (green) and which I can't join because I don't have the mod installed.
Then when the client has started I would have a chat aera which like in GPL would just use a standard IRC hoster. GPL uses ShadowWorld which makes you able to chat even without the client software installed.
Joining a host would then have to start the exe and give it the appropriate connecting setting as well as the mod string.
This would be not easy but not that hard to program. I have attached a picture how the online client looks like. Chat rooms can be created easily and seperated with a password like in most IRC clients. |

Well, there is non there Schrecken... And i also have BHQ for CCMT and COI... Basicly non ever in any rooms.
Cant that be adverticed or easy clicked from mutiplayer screen?
|
I had no real interest in online action that's why I haven't checked but this is interesting. Where do I find any info how to use BHQ with CC WaR ?
I found some information regarding CC CoI but the support folder only contains only some pdf. And I checked the PDF files but could not find anything useful regarding BHQ.
Schrecken, any info on this ? |

I do believe that true 3D would help a lot. Don't be mislead by stupid 3D sims/games.
A true world still could use a view angle similiar to the known one. But buildings etc would have the real properties and would make it easier for collision detection as well as LOS.
But to say it's easy is a total understatement because all would have to be done new. It starts with the maps itself because now they are 2D and made into semi 3D by a greyscale layer (if I'm right here).
Trees, bushes, hedgerows etc must be constructed.
Soldier and equipment must be constructed in 3D and to make it worse animation must be done too.
Next the whole physics for the bullets, mortars and guns must be calculated in 3D instead of the semi 3D of the CC series.
Damage must be created.
And further the AI which isn't great must be able to navigate in 3D.
It's popssible to do all of this and to maintain a classic CC feeling because if done right the major difference would only be seen by zooming in and out and maybe be able to have different views/angles.
But it's a total new engine which would be not compatible to any existing mod or map. I hope for CC 6 but I don't believe that for such a small amount of people the work will be done.
I have bought and played Panzer Command: Kharkov but compared to the CC graphics and motion I don't like it.
But who knows what they are developing |

Firefox,
I think most, if not all, respect your wishes and if I recall you have answered here (http://www.closecombatseries.net/CCS/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&p=35607#35607) a bit different before you did edit it. I'm a non native english speaker and I wasn't sure how to interpret it right. So schrecken has done it wrong.
But I think it's time to let it rest and move on. I accept your reason why you want to host and why you want to give permission to the sites which can host your mod. I accept it even if I would have done it different. But this is what makes our life interesting. Everyone looks at things from different points of view. Most of the time they are all right. Only different.
