Sure.
I am, of course, available for any information in order to make as much easy as possible the installation for interested people.
The white box below the monitor is Raspberry PI3

Screenshots:
1) Open virtual machine from main menu
2) Virtual machine opened a "Windows 95" window
3) Full Windows 95 screen

PostForum: Close Combat 5: Invasion Normandy   Posted: Tue Oct 09, 2012 8:56 pm   Subject: Play CC5 with Ubuntu
I am almost free from Windows constrains, there is just one obstacle, CC5. I installed PlayOnLinux and Wine but I get the following error message: "Unable to get format on screen". I also installed Oracle VM VirtualBox, it seems fine at the beginning but later, just before the battle, I get the error: "Can't access surface for lock". I am using Ubuntu 12.04 64 bits, good environment indeed, but no chance with CC5.
Is there anybody with some successful experience in installing CC5 under Ubuntu 12.04? I really like to liberate myself from Windows.

Yeah I added you but it says you are offline right now, probably because you are at work. I don't know what that error was about. Anyway, I'll hit you up sometime soon for a game.

I'm online, probably some traffic problem.

Anytime you want a CC5 battle, I'm here. Bye

Okay we are in very different time zones, it's 2pm there now and it's 7am here now. Do you stay up late? I'd like to play around 10 or 11 your time, later than that if possible because I usually sleep during the day, so 10 or 11 your time would be 3pm or 4pm my time. What do you think?

also do you have msn or aim?, that would make it alot easier if we decide to play.

Let's use GMT time here is GMT+2 I understand you should have GMT-7 I can play any time on Saturday and Sunday, but just in the night during working days. My Yahoo nick is macparlant, MS nick is oresteafrica [at] hotmail [dot] com. Choose a time and day within my limits.

I can host the game if someone can tell me how to minimize it without closing it out.

Just use the alt-tab keys together to switch from one program to another.

Do you have a messenger? I use Yahoo and MS

so if you have my ip we can just start a game through the multiplayer section in the game instead of going through gamespy? because for some reason I just can't get that to work. I'd love to play though if someone wants to host a game.

I think should be enough, no need of gamespy. What we have to do is initial and final reporting for scoring purposes. If you see

http://www.tournamenthouse.com/forum/index.php

in particular "THouse CC5 Rules & Regs" you find the following:
Quote:

1.) Maps.
Only need to offer one map - but offering 2 or 3 maps is preferable as it gives the joiner some choice. Offering 2 or 3 maps ensures that the 'pet' map advantage is reduced. You can find THouse suggested maps here

2.) Joiner's Decisions
Joiner to look at forcepool and choose sides. Can view map and deploy area in Mapview screen. No need to enter into main deploy screen just to see map.

3.) The SPY 'trick'
When both players pick their units and are ready to start the battle they inform each other that they are ready. Then the hoster MUST press next FIRST. To ensure no cheating can occur with the SPY 'trick', the hoster MUST press next FIRST. If the joiner forgets and presses first, the Joiner is at fault and so no dispute can be raised about this subject. REMEMBER: As a joiner wait until your host has pressed next FIRST!

4.) Victory conditions
Computer to decide victor at end of battle with VICTORY LOCATION POINTS. (Regardless of whether it is meeting or defense/attack map) VLs have different point values depending on whether they are Primary, secondary or tertiary VLs (The bigger the writing, the more points they are worth):
Primary = 3 points
Secondary = 2 points
Tertiary = 1 point

End of battle occurs when:
A) Time runs out
B) Force morale gets too low
C) When all enemy forces are destroyed

These variables are set by the host, and are agreed upon by the joiner on starting the game. "Oh I didnt realise" or "I must have missed it" are no excuse.

Therefore there is no intermediary host, at least it seems to me.

It won't work for me any way I do it. Damnit, I want to play this game online. Too much trouble though. Rolling Eyes

As far as I understand there is no special mechanism for gaming, not like the ex MSN game zone.

We just decide to meet at a specific time and, through any communication facility, such as a common messenger, we exchange useful information for connecting the game. IP address should be enough.

I'm ready Mad

We have to inform the forum about our battle before it takes place and the result after.

How exactly do you play online? I went to gamespy/IGN and I'm already a registered member there, but how do I found out how to play online? Anyone link me please? And when I do try to go online it just takes me back to the main page on the game, any thoughts on that?

I have a similar problem, but I suppose that we can deal through the forum, deciding day and time, notify it to the forum and, finally, have our battle.

I am available any time, better night GMT time. CC5 of course.

Bye

Thanks a lot for your infos. I had a problem with cookies in Firefox, I fixed it and now I can see all pages. I installed Stalingrad and I started to play it with great interest.

I'd really like to play CC5 online, but I never see people on the three CC5 chat rooms.

I am available in night time GMT. I'm looking for opponents.

Greetings

I've just downloaded CC5_Stalingrad_MapPack I'd like to play it but I have no idea about how to prepare the whole map in order to see it on the CC5 menu. I'm looking for a guide and/or a manual. How you installed the Map Pack? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Look forward to seeing you there!

I visited that site, I clicked on "Join now" button and, as usual, appears sex adv. I feel quite upset with these tricks.

Is there any more serious site where is possible to play seriously without having all time half naked girls?

War simulation should not include sexy girls..... (just an opinion of course)

Cheers
