Thanks for your concern. Believe me, I'm not forcing him to do anything, but he's interested in history, particularly mid 20th Century European history, and if he's keen enough to want to pay H2H on a LAN, then I'll accommodate him. One of the previous posts is good evidence of how these games bring family together, and I'd prefer to communicate through Close Combat tahn not communicate at all.

Thanks, guys. That's a real help. I've got a physical copy of TLD so I will only need one more download. I'll see about LSA in due course....

To be honest, I wasn't ever here that much with a business to run, but son (13) is now very keen to start playing one-to-one.

I have thoroughly enjoyed such mods as I have played, especially Meuse, GJS, Bloody Omaha and Okinawa. Although I have CC2,3,4,5 & Longest Day, I don't have two copies of anything.

I would be much obliged for some sage advice from the regulars as to what is available to buy, which versions they recommend, which versions have more mods, and where the mod community is headed over the next couple of years.

FTML, have now stripped it all out again and re-installed. Plugins now install, but when I run cc5.exe, I get a streaming error. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

After a long absence, I installed CC5 on my current laptop, and all went swimmingly, until a battery problem caused a GJS session to throw a wobbly. It then couldn't find a video (presumably corrupted through said wobbly) and I therefore removed the plugin folder, removed the patch and removed CC5 before reinstalling all 3 in the reverse order. Now when I run any plugin, it tells me at it can't find the Acqueville file and sulks. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

G'day, Shrecken

I'm not so pommy that I won't take good advice from an Aussie. Thanks v much.

BTW, have you thought of a CC mod for that tank that you guys built in ww2 - a superb but untested product of Aussie ingenuity? As I recall, a Sherman-based hull with a cast turret.

When I run the executable, I get a pop-up error message:

Assertion Failed
EBUSetup: File l:\Hotsetup\Engine3\Util.cpp,Line 233
Abort/Retry/Ignore

If I hit retry twice, it says that it installs, but it doesn't update the version in properties and won't intall any plugins. I have ben through the CC3 forum and can find nothing of relevance.

I would really appreciate some sensible (i.e. I've cracked this, and this is how you do it) advice.

Have read other posts. Was running IBM R series XP laptop, and cc2-v ran fine, mods too. Screen has gone futt, and not cost-effective to repair, so am now running 32-bit VISTA Business on Dell XPS M1330. Spec should be fine.

Loaded normally. Copied video folder and contents to CCV folder. Have set compatability to Win98.

Bald windows error tells me "Close Combat(tm)V: Invasion Normandy has stopped working.
A problem caused the porgram to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and and notify you if a solution is available."

I'd worked the first part out for myself, and unsurprisingly, Windows has told me zip, nada, niente - you get the picture.

Any ideas, anyone?

Thabks - that's considerably more constructive than the earlier reply from Searry. And what's with Sargeant? There's no such rank.

I am trying to revisit old battles, and have plugged in GJSv44.

Everything works fine until I proceed to the Battle Map, at which point it tells me:

"Close Combat Error
Unable to continue play because the drive is full. Clear some space on this drive and resume Close Combat."

I have 11.5 GB free. Either GJS has taken to Dunkin Donuts in a major way, or there is something else wrong.

Any ideas, anyone?

Ain't much of a rpely, but in my experience this has been a bug in CC itself, not just in mods. I have also found that a more modern PC encountered the problem less frequently. Are you running this on an elderly machine?

I have downloaded, plugged in and played this excellent mod. However, when I try to uninstall this particular plugin, CfgV13 throws up an error "Failed to copy System\Packages\CC5ABTF311DBR105\Map300txt.org to C:\program Files\SSI\Close Combat Invasion Normandy\Maps\maps300.txt because System\Packages\CC5ABTF311DRB105\Map300txt.org does not exist"

With my limited knowledge of the inner workings of Cfgv13, I appear to have no option but to zap CfgV13 and reinstall it to get rid of this dependent but obdurate plug-in.

Any suggestions, anyone?

I encountered something similar. See my post in the Mess re Winter War.

I played CC5 to death, and wanted to try some of the mods, so I started with GJS. I didn't load it properly first time, but did eventually get it working - my problem had been not following the intsructions to the letter (RTFM).

I then had problems installing Meuse Crossing, and encountered similar registry problems to those that you describe. So I tried unplugging and re-installing CC5.

I then discovered that I could not uninstall or re-install over the top, I suspect because some of the registry entries had been inadvertently amended by my flailing about. So I loaded CC5 onto another PC, and copied the program files over. Once I had re-installed the game, I patched it and bingo - I was able to run CC5 and insert the plug-ins.

All my plug-ins were safe as these were kept in a separate folder. On that note, I have done these slightly differently, as each mod appears to suggest slightly different directories. I have therefore set up a folder called Config Manager CC5 within c:\Program Files (and another one for CCIV) and have put all the mods in it. I keep the downloads separate in case I need to re-install the maps.

I hope that this may be of help. Good luck!

If no-one has any better ideas, this may be a solution.

Like Anzac-Lord4war, I'm now a veteran of the (lost) battle to install the Winter War mod. After finding corrupted data on CC5 and being unbale to un-install it, I've installed CC5 on another XP machine and copied over the installed files and it now works again. I've installed the WW mod without a problem, and am able to load everything. But when I run it I get a Microsoft CC5.exe error - the "tell us all about it" kind that nobody ever sends.

Any ideas anyone?
