I was just playing CC 5.104? i think. It's the regular cc5 with the patch. I play GSJ and there was a HUUUGE difference on how weak mortars were against cannons. oh well. Thanks Tippi-Simo

I remember reading of a Me-110 bombing run during the battle of Britain. It lined up with an RAF runway, dropped its speed, flaps and landing gear. From head-on the ground crew thought it was a friendly coming in to land. It closed the distance unmolested, lined up its sights on a row of planes and in one run took out half a dozen aircraft.

yeah, that makes sense. Thanks Polemarchos!
Although does it work out in the campaign? I mean if you had 15 minute battles, would the game feel balanced or would it switch over to the defenders favor?

What do you guys think is better? Pros? Cons? I've been playing 30 minute battles and it seems to make defence tougher.

Ok even with the patch, any AT gun i put outside of a building is a dead AT gun within 5 mortar shells on average.
I've tried everything: put them next to water, hide them on the board edge, switch from defend to ambush after the first shot ...
the only things that work are using them against units that are out of supply (my opponent tends not to use mortars then) or to just give them such a long and narrow field of fire so they dont get spotted easily (this also makes them less useful)

any ideas?

so many guns lost to mortar fire, it makes me shed a tear Sad

hey all, this'll be the first of a whole lot of posts I'll write this week.
My question: So a friend and i are in the middle of the Grand Campaign and i've noticed that some of my regiments (even those not in combat) are losing the odd unit here and there. Anyone else notice this? Is this normal and if so, how often does it happen?

For example, I pulled one regiment from the front line because it was down to a single Sturmgeshutz and Pak 40. A few days later, it makes contact with the enemy and suddenly I've lost both AT units.

Another example, one unit out of combat lost a french tank from its displayed force pool on the main map. It just disappeared from one day to the next.

Its pretty demoralizing since some of these units were critical ... i chalked it up to the game simulating air bombardment casualties Smile

On the flip side, one of my airborne units early in the campaign got a 120mm mortar replaced.

None of these units disbanded or were out of supply btw ... any ideas?
Also, we're fairly consistent about reloading after every battle....

cheers and happy new year all.

PS as a side note my Ostruppen regiment got seriously mauled behind enemy lines early in the game. When it respawned it started with only 4 units in its forcepool (all of them visible on the strategic map). As the game progressed the forcepool fluctuated up to 9 units and is now down to 1 unit ... and it was never even in combat.... hmm ideas anyone?
Topic: Armor and Armor Penetration - finding some hard numbers

PostForum: CC5 Gold, Juno, Sword   Posted: Mon Dec 08, 2008 10:20 am   Subject: Armor and Armor Penetration - finding some hard numbers
Hey folks,

I know my history and I know my WWII hardware but I'm trying to get some idea of the numbers that go into the mechanics of the game especially on armor penetration with tanks.

So its clear that a units effectiveness at damaging a target is represented by the little AP/AT box in the middle bottom of the screen - the one with the ranges (2,4,8,16,32,64) on it.

It's also clear that effectiveness, as shown in that box, is affected by the units quality e.g. a veteran panther A is more lethal than an experienced panther A.

That said, is there a number that goes with those little green or yellow bars? If there are numbers somewhere, where are the ones for the armor and facing on tanks? I guess i want, for exmaple, to get a sense of how vulnerable my tanks are so I take appropriate decisions on how i move them - rush in head first or take the long but safe route. Or what kind of odds of damage can i expect if i take my Tigers head first into a nest of Fireflys.
I can always ballpark it but numbers and the mathematical modeling might be useful.

cheers all

PS I love this game, I was just playing with a pretty tough adversary. He slaughtered a platoon of my infantry (including a panzershrk team) in a vital location with his armor. Moved in his tanks onto the victory location. The last survivor, a leader from my command group salvages a panzershrek from his dead troops and picks off the tanks. It was the happiest loss i ever suffered - made my night. Alas, poor Schmidt didn't make it though. We'll send his medal to his next of kin.

So I'm getting a similar or identical error. Specifically it says "Failed to copy Systems\Packeges\GJSv44\CC5.exe to C:\ProgramFiles\SSI\CloseCombat InvasionNormandy\CC5.exe (Error code = 5)

I switched compatibility to 98/ME and it gave me the same error. i also reinstalled to no effect.

ideas anyone? Also, is it me or is Vista really really annoying?
