Why the "F__K" are you asking for a new game?

And did I mention the same old shit sells for $40-$50 ?

Been a long time since I was last here, and just happened to stop by this site to see if anything was new. Completely forgot about CC6. Anyways saw this thread, and this post made me chuckle. One of the very reasons I took a long LONG break from my favorite all time game was because I got so sick and tired of those craptastically bad Matrix versions. Yes ultimately it was my stupid fault for getting them, but what a waste. Never could play through any of their versions completely. Either at some point a the game would just fail completely to continue on with a campaign, or worse the game would just cause my computer to slow down and eventually lock up or crash. Did not matter what computer, laptop, OS, etc., they are all just poorly modified versions of the original. Sure there was some unique and interesting additions, but in hindsight none were all that great.

So sad that we can't get a Close Combat game with 2012+ technology. Think about what they could do with graphics now. Think about that the graphics in these games were not that bad considering how old they are, then think about the possibility of what they could do with today's Nvidia or AMD chips. Think almost near photo-realistic tanks and maps, buildings that explode and crumble, etc.. Think about the advancements we could have with tank optics and sighting enemy.

I honestly believe if done right someone could make a new updated Close Combat game fit for today's market that would sell. Sadly I don't think we will ever see it. Instead it will be continuously worse RTS games that are really fit for children.

I have Dell D600 that I use to play older games. I have all the CC games installed, with the exception primarily of the re-releases from Matrix. I just tried to install Last Stand Arnhem, and I get the same behavior that I get with Longest Day and Wacht am Rhein. When starting a game, usually within 5 minutes the gameplay crawls to a standstill, the mouse movement is slow and jerky, and I have to escape from the game and kill it with Task Manager.

What is even odder is that for about 5 minutes after the whole computer is just slow and clunky. Running this under Windows XP SP3. I have no problems with Modern Combat, or any of the old SSI/Atomic games. Problem is I tried this on another laptop and got the same results. However my brother claims it runs fine for him in Windows 7.

Each game was fully patched to the latest version, and the problem still continues. Has anyone else encountered this issue with the Matrix re-releases where the game just stops functioning like I described?

One problem I have with small maps is that when you are move onto a new map and the enemy is defending, often your space allowed to deploy is simply too small and confined. What ends up happening is your armor/guns/vehicles are way too easily destroyed by enemy guns or hidden tanks. Larger maps tend to insure much more movement.

Disadvantage to a really large map is if you have no armor, the game can move very slowly. I have had maps where my forces were weakened to the point I could not really move much. As the enemy just sat there as well the game was never ending.

However on a smaller map this is less often the case as you  have a more defined area where the enemy may be located.

Personally I can tolerate a small map so long as I do not deploy in a space that easily allows the enemy to pick off half my team within 30 seconds. On a certain CC5 mod I am currently playing, this happens to be the case and it is very frustrating to say the least.

I think it comes down to small maps = good for infantry, large maps = good for armor. Armor on a small map is just pointless some as there is no place to move.

I am not given an option to accept or not, it goes right to the screen telling me the battle ended because the enemy force moral got too low ( I have the option checked that the battle will end when moral is low). What I want to know is what is the determining factor to when the map is completely won and the enemy force is disbanded/gone completely?

One map I will have majority of the map covered destroying most and yet they live to fight another day, another map it seems as if I hardly did any real damage and voila, they are gone.

What is it that determines whether you completely remove the enemy from the map, or they call a cease fire? Quite frustrating at times when one enemy battle group holds a key map that prevents any movement of other groups. Sometimes it is frustrating because it seems like I have moved across and covered most of the map ready to completely win, then all of a sudden game ends and I have to replay the map the next day. Other maps, they are completely removed allowing me to move to the next map.

Does not the US NAtional Anthem contain the words 'In God is our trust.'?

Does the Pledge of Allegience contain the words "under God"?

When being sworn into office are the words "So help me God" muttered?

Doesn't US bank notes proclaim  "In God We Trust."?

Just wondering how secular that country is.

To give you a proper answer would simply not work in a forum, so I will simply condense several points. To begin with, the founding fathers of this country were majority wise Desist in belief, not Christian. Several argued vehemently to have all references to any religion completely stricken, while a select few argued in turn vehemently to have these references placed. In the end in order to form a union of 13 distinct colonies, compromises were made. But it must also be understood that a lot of religious reference at this time was not specifically to religion, but rather the culture; hence why we say we are a Judeo-Christian nation. It does not mean that we were formed to create a Jewish/Protestant state, but rather acknowledging where the people came from culturally.

Furthermore, at this time it was also understood that certain references to "God" did not imply any special relation to the Christian "God", but rather simply a god, i.e. higher power (talk to someone from A.A. about this). Even this was in itself controversial to some who again felt any reference to anything spiritual was damaging (although not openly acknowledged, many of these landed educated founders were in truth Agnostic to Atheist in belief).

Now with that said, it should also be mentioned that over time the U.S. courts have handled these such issues, and quite a few have been restricted and removed. We just had a case in California about removing the reference to "God" in the pledge of allegiance (which is funny because I did not even know anyone still did that, I had that in 1st grade and never again after).

With that all said, it should also be mentioned of course that the state itself can not officially/legally promote any specific religion. Case in point was a certain judge a few years back who was removed from the bench for placing the Ten Commandments in his courtroom. This is just one of thousands of cases where the courts have struck down laws and such that sought to promote a specific religion. Acknowledging faith is accepted, but promoting it is not. It should also be understood that strangely the state can also not compel a faith upon you, as such you do NOT have to swear in using a bible, nor utter the words "So help me god".

The specific issue at hand is deemed entirely unconstitutional because it promotes a specific faith/belief/religion. To summarize and give a brief example, a city or town hall (government property) can place a Christmas tree in their property, but not a cross, star, or anything else. While Christmas may very well be considered a "Christian" holiday, this is also a cultural event that is open to anyone (i.e. even Jews or Muslims can buy a tree and decorated it!). On the other hand, the government can not in any form dictate to you about placing a cross, Star of David, or other symbol on your front door. For you see ultimately our laws are there to protect individual's faith, which was the original intention of the founding fathers who probably just wanted to practice their Atheism, Agnosticism, Deism, etc.. free of government intervention. I can not speak for Australia, but in comparison to almost all of Europe, the U.S. is still by far the most secular, some of which is because we have at least codified laws where as some to this day have never acknowledged freedom of religion.

p.s. One other example, in France they are close to banning the Muslim Burqa, whereas in the U.S. this would be completely incomprehensible. The closest they can do is a limitation or restriction that must be coupled with accommodation.

PostForum: The Mess   Posted: Sat Jan 23, 2010 8:39 pm   Subject: Re: Why does the media support Al Quaeda & Taliban
I have not read the Guardian's piece yet, but have seen the news about this here in the U.S. Suffice to say that the story itself was a very legitimate news story, and the obvious solution was to have never had these religious messages imprinted, especially here in the U.S. We are a secular nation, with a clearly defined separation of church and state. We are also a nation of immigrants constituting more ethnicity, cultures, AND religions than anywhere else. So thus the first question is did the inscriptions provide for Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Confucius, Wicca, Atheist, Zoroastrian, and others? Were the messages Catholic? Mormon? Lutheran? Baptist? Amish? Point is that putting in evangelical messages was not simply inappropriate, it was illegal and unconstitutional. I can't speak for the other nations involved, but here in the U.S. there simply is no room for the promotion of any religion, belief or faith. This was as much an affront to our ideas and values as it was to Muslims in Afghanistan.

Even more it is a grand embarrassment in the war of messages. How can we say this is NOT a religious conflict, that this has nothing to do with religion?

But, having the media report negative news can also be quite positive. It reaffirms our belief in freedom and liberty, here including freedom of the press. Believe me when I say having the Guardian write this piece is a hell of a lot better than having the Taliban come across this themselves and be the ones announcing this.

PostForum: Close Combat Last Stand Arnhem   Posted: Wed Oct 07, 2009 9:54 pm   Subject: Re: So Officially WILL THERE BE a CC2 Rerelease?
I just had to chime in my two cents. I could not agree more with the sentiment that since the early days they have done absolutely nothing with the AI, and worse the pathing! How ironic I see this just after exiting a game due to utter frustration with the pathing.

For whatever reason I just had the worst games. I was playing the Gold/Juno mod as Germans. I had an isolated force that was low on fuel and ammo, with two tanks left. I have just about won the map, thus able to move my force back for resupply. First tank inexplicably backs up out into the street going the opposite direction of where I want it to go. Since it is backing out, rear exposed, it is no problem for the Sherman down the street I wanted to out maneuver. Next tank dies as I need to rush it forward fast, instead it sits and spins, goes off in the wrong direction into a hedge and looses a track. Thus the Firefly had easy pickings.

This is CC5....5 games and never an improvement with either AI or path finding. My biggest complaint towards Matrix is they essentially have done nothing more than re-released games with mods built in for more than I paid for the original. I understand their price is going to be higher simply because the market is so damn small now for these games. But...a certain company that supposedly works on these games has done nothing either to improve the AI or pathing as well. You would think with some nice government funding this would improve somewhat. Well, there is a reason I got sick of CCMT quickly.

But, as for CC2 it would be nice to see an updated game, specifically with updated maps! I don't care too much for the current ABTF mods as they simply use converted maps which I find outdated.

PostForum: Modding Workshop   Posted: Wed Sep 30, 2009 9:04 pm   Subject: Help needed for customizing mod.
I would like to create my own custom mod for CC5 that would give me two things; maps and forces of my choosing. In order to do this I was thinking I could just mix and match components from other mods available. Essentially I want to add later force pools with a mix of maps found in CC5, Juno/Gold, and Utah. Now to do this I need to know where to begin essentially by understanding what the different files contain. Now I can easily assume I need to replace/modify the following:

1.) Force pools
2.) Graphics for force pools...do I simply replace Tanks.azp, Wrecks.azp, and Guns.azp?
3.) Map index

Now if I copy say the FP's (force pools) from say the Vet/Ardennes mod, then of course I would have to have the graphics for the vehicles. I would also want to add in the way in which these vehicles operate (i.e. I like the 2cm German vehicles and how they fire, along with the Sherman Calliope. Now if this is a simple matter of pulling certain number of files from this mod, and simply replacing then fine. But I would need to know which files.

Second part is the maps. There are certain maps in each game/mod that I have always enjoyed, and always hated. I would like to have a game where it contains all of my maps that I truly enjoy. So looking through the folder of files in any given mod I see Index.mpi, with a list of map names. If a given mod's strategic map has 20 maps, with a Index.mpi listing 20 map names, should it suffice to simply replace the names? Is this simply the file names minus the extension?

Lastly, if I wanted to use VetBob's strategic map, but alter it somewhat, where do I find this file? How or what would I use to edit it?

This is EXACTLY what I needed! Thanks!

Funny thing is though I opened it up to edit, and spent off and on about 3 hours plus adding, removing, modifying etc..Then I jumped up to do a quick vacuum of the floor before came over, forget to save, and managed to blow the circuit when I turned on the vacuum. So of course 3+ hours of unsaved work all gone. There is a lesson there about saving or something, but damn if I can figure out what that lesson is :)

Now if only we had a map editor as simplistic as the one Heroes of Might and Magic 2-4 had, or even Blitzkrieg.

I would like to change the availability of weapons CC5 and some of it's mods. I have currently VetBoB loaded up, and I want to make available some weapons that have 0 availability , so essentially I want to edit the number of certain weapons available in the force pool. I did some looking around and found QClone, but I do not know where to start.

For example, in VetBoB grand campaign I have limited to no Sherman 105s in several of my teams, yet they are listed though. I would like to change it so when I start a campaign I have 5-6 available for requisition.

I just got CC WAR installed on a Dell Latitude D600, 2GB RAM, 1.7Ghz CPU, ATI Mobility 9000, XP SP3. I have every CC game installed, and aside from the horrible bugs I get with CCMT, all games run just perfectly. Until now.

When I load up a map, after 3-5 minutes the game just bogs down to an incredibly horrid performance level. Eventually it is such a slow crawl to just move the mouse that I have to exit. Going through the game menus is equally slow, so I know it is not just the map I was on. Exit game, reload and everything is fine until I load up another map and the same problem occurs. I am kicking myself for paying $40 for what is essentially a mod to CC4, but at the time I just felt like blowing some money. Now considering the game will not play, I am really frustrated.
