PostPosted: Sun Jan 08, 2006 1:11 pm Post subject: Problem Running CCIV on modern PCs? Reply with quote

I've been playing the various CCs for years mostly on LANs against fellow wargamers, and this XMAS I set up a game on my new Dual Core Althlon 4200 with 2GB of RAM and XP SP2, the usual. The game will play for a few battles slowing down slowly until it becomes unplayable. A similar occurance happens on my other newer computer, a Dell XPS laptop with a P4 3.4, 1GB of RAM, etc. Oddly, the game runs fine on my slowest computer a Pentium M laptop with 1GB of RAM running probably 1.6Ghz. Any explantions or solutions to the modern computer old CC games dilema? We still love the engine and the experinces enough to keep whipping them out year after year despite newer matierial. Seems others in the forums were having problems along my lines, however I never saw concrete answers or workarounds? Much appreciate any help you can provide.

Your problem have a easy solution, it is not a computer hardware problem, it is only a Windows XP problem, you need run the game on compatibility mode, do right click on CC4 icon and select properties, click on compatibility and select run on windows 98 / Millenium mode.

With it the game runs very well, without the slow and strange scroll.

I play all CC on a P4 3.0ghz 1gb ram without problems. Razz

Hi all,

just installed CCIV today on my new portable (Celeron M 1,4 GHz, 512 M RAM), with Windows XP SP2.

Apart from the fact that it needs the Indeo video codcs (which is only available for 15$ online from Ligos - blah!), the game crashes with a "unable to get format on Stream" error. I am running the game app in WIn98 compatibility mode, but it doesn't help.

Any suggestions? It would sure be appreciated, because I think CCIV is one of the best war games of all time...

Thanks in advance.

Nevermind, CCIV works fine when:

1) Patched to 4.02
2) Run in Win98 mode
3) Inded video codescs are installed (they can be found on the GNUtella network, btw).

Cheers! Smile
