I was wondering whether anyone knew how, and if, promotions worked in CC5?

The top German rank is a major, and BGs aren't given any rank higher than a captain to start with, so I presume that promotions are part of the game play, or am I completely wrong?

If anyone knows what it takes to get promoted or can give examples I'd be very grateful. There's nothing about it in the CC5 manual that I can see.....

Soldiers aren't promoted in CC5.
I've heard people saying that they'd had soldiers promoted, but this was probably a soldier or team leader that was killed and replaced by a higher ranking soldier/team leader giving that person the impression they'd witnessed a promotion. There are no promotions.

As far as finding higher ranks go your best bet is the first slot in first platoon (the middle platoon). Click the lead team in and out there until you find those high ranks you're looking for. This center-top slot yields higher ranks than any other.

Thanks for that. Have you ever had a Major then? Most senior I've had is a Hauptmann.

Yes. Look for a Major in a very experienced BG with excellent morale. Again, that top slot in 1st platoon yields the best results.

That was what is really great about the single battle group format of cc3. You can get individuals promoted during the game for blowing things up or charging machine gun nests etc. In many cases you can have a tank commander compare in rank to your commander due to the number of kills earned, however the command radius doesn't seem to be effected, and you tend not to want to risk the high ranking tank commanders you have built up over the course of the game..

what's funny about the CC games is that if they do promote they won't last the next match about 70% of the time

Mine would as I'd hide them and assign them bodyguards!

I'm gutted now as my most decorated unit in a H2H GC I'm fighting, Stalingrad mod, just got positioned in the wrong damn place and was wiped out. And in the same battle another German assault group leader got ten acs of bravery and the Iron Cross, second class, but died, even though his unit only sustained two casualties.

I will wait for that major then, and stop checking whether I've been promoted or not.

the only things that survive around me are B1 bis heavy tanks and MG42 squads and those don't survive that often either. it's probably because i don't care much about infantry and light tanks.

As far as I've ever seen, the highest rank you can get is a Hauptman (Captain). The only major you'll ever get is if you use CCreq. Hauptman is the best you can look forward too.

What is CCreq? I must admit I've given up hope of getting promotions, so I'll stick with questing for Iron Cross first class. or Knights Cross with Oak Leaves and clusters!

CCreq is an editor for CC5. Allows you to edit BG's and map deploys.
Mac may be right. I'm sure I've seen Majors, though I play a lot of CCreq games so there ya go.

The "CC Requisition Editor" is available for DL here at CCS.

Here's some cool stories of acceptional cc5 soldiers:

Nice site, I had a look around, but every link works except the forum link, which goes to 'page cannot be displayed' every time.

Incidentally, on the medals page, why no Iron Cross Frist Class? From Second Class straight to Knights Cross....

By the way, the exceptional soldiers you talk about, they have achieved what they've achieved in H2H action, right, not v AI, which is like stealing candy from a baby.
