Hi all!
I'm new to the CC online community but not to the CC series. I'm wondering which CC5 mods to dowload. I'm looking for good(bugfree) mods with high historical accuracy. I usually play as germans...
"Close Combat" and "bug free" do not belong in the same breath. Oops I just did it too.
Some mods more buggy than others.
It really boils down to personal preference when finding the ones that you enjoy the most.
- GJS is probably still most popular mod.
- We're playing a team war now using the Overlord mod, which is based on GJS, but allies are stronger in Overlord and lots of other changes, for better or worse depending on who you ask. Also, people will say that there's too many versions, that it's updated too frequently.
- I got into SAS for a long time. Very cool, but BG's are a bit whacky as the allied BG's are totally stacked and pre-reinforced. Some nice maps.
- Utah is a very nice mod. The favorite of a lot of people. CC5 stock maps.
New version will have new maps I think.
- Stalingrad is almost supreme, but does break down on some levels. Very well done, but controversial. Some one way roads, supply bugs, etc... and people will hoot 'till the cows come home about the armor variables/balance/BG's, etc...
It's tough to find a balance in this mod, but with the right custom op it's a lot of fun for both sides. No balance to the stock ops (After much trial and error I've finally got a couple very nicely balanced custom ops for Stalingrad. If you'd like them I'll post them for you)
There's so many mods for CC5 now that I'm barely even scratching the surface.
Another good way to approach it is if you have a favorite theater of the war, as there is a mod for almost all of them, though there are significantly more for some than others.
unfortunately i can't tell you much except about Kraliea 1&2 and the stalingrad mod. my computer has problems with other mods (coruptted files) , but if you plan on making any mods, i can help with researching

i have many mods sitting side by side in my plugin manager
and all work perfectly.
watch out at trying new mods and then all of of a sudden old mods not working.getting errors.these r errors r caused by badly written scripts for the new mods.
or u have not d/l all the files for the mod.

No, dont download Karelia 1! It has a lot of bugs and maps used from GJS and Bloody Omaha. They are great but doesent fit into the landscape of Finland.
Difference Winter War - Karelia? The winterwar is about the Russian invasion of Finland nov-march 1939-40.Karelia is about the Russian offensive on Finland june-july 1944 to force the Finns out of WW II.

Generally I only play Grand Campaigns though, for other purposes I'm sure the other mods are good and I love having a go at them here and there to toy with all the different gear but I find for GCs GJS is by far the most balanced mod and (from what I'm told) its historically accurate.
I've played SAS, El Alamein, GJS Black Devils (very similar to overlord or so I'm told), Stalingrad, RegXtra.
I think GJS has the perfect balance of armour and infantry on the battle field and allows the players of each respective side to make use of either sides respective benifits: i.e. Allies have roughly 2 times the gear the germans have but then the germans have excellent gear by comparison to the allies.
Get VetBob 1.13! Its the best CC5 mod out there (in my opinion). The sounds and graphics are really good; VetBoB is the only mod that i actually get immersed properly in.
finally i got a new mod to work GJS 4.4, i like it (especially the tigers) and i have a couple of tanks absolutely bashing a hole the brtitsh, but the dang canadians keep beating me. if you want a fun mod you should go with GJS

one question on all these mods. as you use each one do you uninstall the one you are currently using then install the one you want to play? and does the uninstalled one drop into your bottom screen of the config manager? that was two questions btw. thanks for the help.

In August of 2004, Zappi, Homba, Bambam887, RedScorpion and MOOXE all pitched
in to create this Close Combat site. I would to thank all the people who have visited
and found this site to thier liking. I hope you had time to check out some
of the great Close Combat mods and our forums. I'd also like to thank
all the members of our volunteer staff that have helped over
the years, and all our users that contributed to this site!
