PostPosted: Wed Sep 20, 2006 6:06 am Post subject: Game slowdown Reply with quote

This may have been asked before so please excuse me. When playing CC5 I have noticed that with each subsequent battle the game gets slower and slower. I have a powerful computer so I know it is not a hardware issue. It seems like there is a memory leak and each subsequent game fills up the memory until after 5 straight games or so it becomes unplayable and I have to reset the PC to get CC5 playing normally again.

Is this a known bug and is there any workaround?

Thanks

i had this issue with like CC1 !!! i had to make win95 compatable and have a special run command line(see cso help)

for cc2/3/4/5 i make them all win98 compatable, it makes the game sload a bit faster, and almost always stops the exe crashes when exiting and during games.

to make a CC win98 compatable.

1)first find your CC icon(this applies to any game,if it wont load u can do this to the install file on cd before starting for older kids games)
CCV is usually:
c:/programfiles/ssi/closecombatinvasionnormandy/(the ccv.exe with soldier icon)
2) right click icon, go to properties at the bottom.
3) third to right it a compatibility tab, open it.
4)click on win98 box, press APPLY

maybe restart may help. do this to cc2/3/4/5. rtb,ftf,ccm3.1(ccmraf) should be winXP compatable already.
cant wait for vista, do all this shit again...
.....god i hope cc6 cometh soon.

I had this issue as well on a resonably new PC. I tried everything:

Compatibility mode
DX disabled
updated drivers
resolution settings

And I still couldn't get the damn game to work, I had to reboot after EVERY game.... very annoying Evil or Very Mad

I dont think it can be a Win98 compatibility issue for me as my first game always plays normally, it is the subsequent games that get slower and slower. Exiting the game then restarting does not solve the problem, only a reset brings it back to normal. Clearly some attribute is being filled up somewhere.

I think I will try a memory tool to monitor the memory usage to see if it really is a memory leak in which case I can reclaim it. Although since I have 1Gig I doubt if it is memory but will let you know.

IF i could not play CCV on my PC as good as i did 5 years ago, id get a old PC just for games. OR just the box and connect ur new key/mouse/screen to old one with a switch. id buy old 2000 era,a small HP compact to save room.

CCV is not faster on new PCs then a well running PC from 1999.

only my laptop seems slower to load, then even my wifes 2002 vintage HP.

my new PC is a amd3500 dual core, 1 gig ram(4 slots up to 8 gig) 400mhz.
win xp pro

never a problem now i dont have anything but GJS

yeah try having just 1 new CCV (make sure original!)

tack

I used to use a utility called "Mem Turbo" which would free up RAM after an application is shut down. It worked great, but it was a few years ago now, when I had a whopping 32 MB of RAM and needed all the help I could get!

i´ve a dual2core since a few weeks, cc5 was not working probably, scrolling around the map didn´t worked "playable",

GS_Schimpf gave me a hint:

"system properties" (Systemsteuerung in german) - "system" - "enhanced" - "start - restartup" -> "properties" -> "edit" :
Quote:
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect /usepmtimer

/usepmtimer i had to insert, reboot system, then after using slow scrolling it works a lot better!

(hope english windowsXP isn´t much far from how i wrote Wink)
