Hi All:

I hooked up to Gamespy last night and saw a few people in the Close Combat Room.

My question is this, how do I know if I have the map that the hosting person wishes to play? Or does the multiplayer copy the map etc to the joining persons PC?

Also, are there any rules regarding choosing ones forces. I.e. Is there an unwritten rule that you should only have a maximum of two tanks, or whatever. Just curious thats all.

Thanks for your help and time.

Well first of all, most people on gamespy play mods, the regular CC5 barely ever gets played. Normally you agree on which mod you want to play with the other person beforehand. Which leads us to your question about maps, if you want to play those mods you will need all the maps for the mod, else you can't even play the mod. (there are multible guides on how to install the mods on this site), they come mostly with handy mappacks, so you won't have to look for all the different maps seperately.
CC5 doesn't give you the files that the hosting player is using, so you allways have to make sure you both have the same mod version installed etc.

There are certain rules around, but again it all depends on whatever you agree on beforehand!
Rule of thumb should be, if the host doesn't say anything about restricting rules, then you can do whatever you want. One unwritten rule is, that you ask your opponent nicely which side he wants to be, axis or allies.
Other rules you may encounter is like you said: tanklimits, so a max of 5 tanks for instance.
And another one which you will see regularly in OP's and GC's is the Victory Location Deploy rule: Which means, you can only deploy your units in deployable areas which are connected to Victory Locations you controle.
Other than that, you might discuss regular settings, like play time per map, alltho 15 minutes seems to be the standard for alot of people. Force moral, 2 minute countdown when having all the VL's, using reinforcements, etc etc

Basicly it comes down to good communication with your opponent on these matters, BEFORE, you start playing.

Thank you Coyote for the information.

I have had some experience installing the Mods (I am currently playing the Stalingrad mod).

I see you are from the Netherlands. Both my parents, and their parents came from Holland in 1950. I am actually half Friesian Smile

Anyways, thank you for your help, and hopefully we'll bump into eachother on the virtual battlefield sometime.

Best Regards,
Jon (Muldoon)

In August of 2004, Zappi, Homba, Bambam887, RedScorpion and MOOXE all pitched
in to create this Close Combat site. I would to thank all the people who have visited and
found this site to thier liking. I hope you had time to check out some of the great Close Combat
mods and our forums. I'd also like to thank all the members of our volunteer staff that have
helped over the years, and all our users that contributed to this site!
