Hi All
I've spent the last 3-4 days trying to set up for playing on Gamespy. I have read all the stuff on this forum, plus on Gamespy, plus on other forums.
I have a Netgear DG834GT on Sky [who I believe tweak things slightly for their ISP purposes - they are a UK satellite broadcaster and now ISP as well]. I have set up the following services in the router menu
Services
and then set the following firewall rules, also in the router menu.
Firewall Rules
Outbound Services
# Service Name Action LAN Users WAN Servers
1 Gamespy1 ALLOW always Any Any
2 Gamespy ALLOW always Any Any
3 Gamespy2 ALLOW always Any Any
4 Gamespy3 ALLOW always Any Any
5 Gamepsy4 ALLOW always Any Any
6 Gamespy5 ALLOW always Any Any
7 Gamespy6 ALLOW always Any Any
8 Gamespy 7 ALLOW always Any Any
9 Gamespy 8 ALLOW always Any Any
10 CloseCombat1 ALLOW always Any Any
11 CloseCombat2 ALLOW always Any Any
12 CloseCombat3 ALLOW always Any Any
13 CloseCombat4 ALLOW always Any Any
14 Gamespy10 ALLOW always Any Any
Default Any ALLOW always Any Any
Inbound Services
# Enable Service Name Action LAN Server IP address WAN Users
6 CloseCombat1 ALLOW always 192.168.0.5 Any
7 CloseCombat2 ALLOW always 192.168.0.5 Any
8 CloseCombat3 ALLOW always 192.168.0.5 Any
9 CloseCombat4 ALLOW always 192.168.0.5 Any
10 Gamespy2 ALLOW always 192.168.0.5 Any
11 Gamepsy4 ALLOW always 192.168.0.5 Any
12 Gamespy5 ALLOW always 192.168.0.5 Any
13 Gamespy6 ALLOW always 192.168.0.5 Any
14 Gamespy 7 ALLOW always 192.168.0.5 Any
15 Gamespy1 ALLOW always 192.168.0.5 Any
16 Gamespy10 ALLOW always 192.168.0.5 Any
I was running Zonealarm, but in my frustration I have completely uninstalled that and removed it from registry.
Still no joy I've been testing my setup in Gamespy by creating a room and trying to launch the game with just me in it, and I keep getting the same result which is an error message
'There was an error which prevented the game from being launched. Check to make sure that the game is properly installed and that the path is correct.'
Checked that and it is properly installed and the path is correct.
I know that others have had trouble with netgear routers, but I don't know how they sorted them out in the end? Please - is there any help out there - I'm at my wits end!![/b]

i just set up my netgeat 834gv3 last week,
sorry i havent got around to post pictures, but ill try...
192.168.0.1 is my gateway, i have 2 ethernet pc,2 wireless 1 pc,1 laptop.
these pc's use 192.168.0.2 and .3 and .4 and .5, byt wireless gets .4 and .5 usually, and ethernet gets .2 and .3 ,sometimes .4 this is why i had for open all these inbound services.
since doing this, i have hosted some dozen ccv and 1/2 dozen coi games this last week!
mine are named PF 1-13 becaused in deperation i bought pfconfig from portforward.com for 30usd. it didnt work because it didnt take into account the router and multiple PCs. it only works with 1pc and no router.

add ccv to windows firewall to accepted list, avg/zone alarm/nortons should all allow program, TEST by opening ccv, multiplayer, host(now anti virus usually pops up, allow)

Hi Anzac Tak
Thanks for the comprehensive reply. Your router config looks quite familiar to what I've put in, but I'll work through it with your once again and see how I get on - good hint re the firewall, I'll also try that.

In August of 2004, Zappi, Homba, Bambam887, RedScorpion and MOOXE all pitched
in to create this Close Combat site. I would to thank all the people who have visited
and found this site to thier liking. I hope you had time to check out some
of the great Close Combat mods and our forums. I'd also like to thank
all the members of our volunteer staff that have helped over
the years, and all our users that contributed to this site!
