In a H2H, it is more difficult than against the AI.
Once when I played the Meuse Crossing mod against the AI, one of my Mark IIs got several Iron Crosses, a wound badge, second class Iron Crosses, and two (yes, 2) Knights Crosses.
Against a human player it is much more difficult to keep your vehicles alive hence you cannot expect to win that many medals before your crew gets wasted. I am currently playing a H2H Stalingrad campaign and my best performing tank is a T34 with four tank kills, 2 gun kills, and about 10-20 infantry kills.
However, when playing H2H it is important to manage your tanks in teams as this gives them a better chance of scoring enough hits to reduce the enemy before he gets back at you. The individual tank is of secondary importance but a team of tanks (if you have more than one at your disposal) is your strength if you manage to coordinate their attack effectively.
against ai you can amass almost any amount of kills... its just a matter of patience, and patience you need!

I will admit that my Stalingrad H2H counterpart in one thirty minute battle managed to take out five (5!) of my KV1s with a single Mark IV. Both he and I were astonished by this rare feat. My KV1s were all in pretty good positions, not too exposed. At some point his Mark IV lumbered slowly up to a position between three KVIs and although I hit that iron shell from three angles, it somehow unexplainably managed to take all three KV1s out one by one.
At first I was in a state of near shock, but then realising that this is after all just a game and I was not personnally incapacitated, I had a good healthy laugh about it. Great fun, great game!
It's just a GAME after all...

I've got a beast of a captured PanzerKampferwagon T-60 743(r). I'm not sure about the medals so I'll just describe them. No tank or arty kills, yet...

And it's only the 16th so to infinity and beyond if they don't get killed first. I'd be heartbroken if they did too, there almost like personal friends by now. I'll post again with the conclusion.
