I was so looking forward to Cross of Iron --- But after trying it out, I have serious doubts now! First, I would like to say........ " A good try at making a great game better, but there are still so many down falls!"

I am making my post here, because i no they would take it off right away. I have played for years and tried every mod, for a new player to try Cross of Iron, he would give up right away...... check out the post at CSO forums. The game is not stream lined to play right away, there are to many things for a new player to do and i would have thought the bugs would have been worked out..... but they are not.

I paid almost 50 bucks for a download that I thought would be great. Instead, I now view all the mods differently..... it is the same as a mod but with a charge. I really think its a shame for CSO and the others to try to make money off a game thats really a mod. I thank all the great mod makers for my free hours of pleasure with CC3. I also wish to thank TH for hosting a free Web Site to enjoy!

Remember these are my thoughts and its a free land to express yourself.... [/b]

CoI is just a re-release/re-package...so I wasn't expecting a new game or anything new. As long as it helps to start the CC train moving again (with CC6, CC7, CC8?)...I'm not complaining. The tweaks to make the game more compatible with new hardware and OS is also cool. The new maps and scenarios are a nice bonus.

I recieved this CoI game in the post a few days ago, my personal thoughts on it are:-

1)
I purchased this game with a view to running the old CC3 mods on it. With the mod swap feature, this has more than met my expectations.

2)
I was impressed with the addition of Battle HQ link, as I have only played before on GS. I found BHQ a very nice site, I have only played on it the once, so any comparison with GS will have to wait, but first impression was excellent.

3)
I never expected the CoI to be that different to CC3, and to be truthful it isn't, you could quite easily be playing the original, apart from the fact it runs a bit easier, with a few more frills.

4)
The cost for me (£35).....Considering I have been playing this game Close Combat since CC2 came out, with all the modifications and hours spent on line and off, and some of the very nice people I have met during the time on line I think this cost is a mere trifle.
Remember this game is played by mostly young men ( plus some of us old duffers Very Happy )..........the price I paid was less than what it would cost me for a night out!.........not bad value at all.
Also I hope that some of the profits made by the producers will go towards financing the developement and production costs of CC6

Cheers
Ronson

I believe Matrix Games did not make it known this was simply a re-release with some add-ons on thier site. Some people from Simtek did make this known through CSO forums and Matrix forums.

i think verse the ai alone i done some 100+ hours,

bear in mind i quit CCIII some 5 years ago.

its not like stock CCIII was, i cant stand it for long now.

i'd pay $100 in hindsight if i had to anyday! a movie cost like 7 dollars to rent, 13 to see, so CC CoI is quite economical! CCIII lasted me some 5 years alone! for $95 AUD at the time for the trilogy, worth every penny!

tack

I agree, I think that if your a fan you would not mind buying a game for $50-$100 bucks, sure you can download games with easy these days but if you really want to play it and see possible sequels made then it should not be an issue.

Iv been a player of CC (CC V mostly) for a few years now and no matter what new games come out Im always happy to go back to CC and spend a few hours playing.

Im getting CoI soon so i hope it is just as fun

Cheers

For someone who lost his old copy of CCIII,
I truly appreciate CCIII: CoI.
I think it's worth the money.
For someone who has the original, don't bother.

I am downloading it now an quite excited. I too lost my CCIII long ago! I have been playing CCV and mods for past couple years.

I LOVED how you could increase rank with CCIII, and hope when my 30 minutes are up I can play again.

Worth it IMHO.

I paid the $50... BEFORE reading forums, and only after reading Matrix Games flowery description. The main reason I bought it was to have, what I thought, a more current multiplayer aspect and navigation... well, it doesn't help that like no one is playing this game out there, but the interface is still weak on top of that. The other reason I bought it was I figured my older games wouldn't run well on WinXP. True to a point... I'm still having trouble running Normandy, but CC2 runs fine.

It's ok, but should have been $20.

no its not a rip off.

firstly, have a look at the new manual and other documentation that comes with the new release. these a totally reworked manual and a new strategy guide. matrix as always has done a stellar job, and marks them apart as a true wargammers company

Also, the maps have been reworked. Finally now I can tell when I'm on the summit of a hill as opposed to the slope, because you can see the features better.

also i believe the AI behaves a little differently now, better, more aggressive

the interface has been reworked. the overall look is beautiful and elegant.

I recommend the game to both old players and new
