PostPosted: Wed Apr 09, 2008 12:20 am Post subject: What would it take to create an CC5 Iwo Jima mod? Reply with quote

I love, absolutely love playing CC5 in all of its moded forms, but I havent a clue how to go about creating a mod. I think Iwo Jima would make a great mod especially if it would be possible to tweak it a bit. Like extend the game to 35 days along with the real battle, allow Japanese troops to move several maps over instead of adjacent maps (for underground transit), and give the Americans the ability to call in either multiple fire supports (or I believe I saw a mod where someone created Air Support as an actual team- I think that would work as well). Quite a few of the teams could be lifted from the Okinawa mod. I think that 44 maps on that island would actually work quite well.

Yeah, I think the teams would be easy to lift, but the maps would need to be different due to the lack of vegetation and of course Suribachi. As I said though- I have no knowledge of how to put one of these together. I'll see what I can dig up about creating these. Any help would be welcome!

Sounds great!
All we need is a mapper, a graphics guy and someone to do the data and historical research...and we have a new mod in the works! Smile
One thing...CC5 can only accomodate a max of 25 days of combat/battles. So 35 days of battles would have to be compressed into 25 days.

Maybe a mini-mod or a pocket mod covering a particular sector of the Iwo Jima campaign would be a good idea to start with.

Certainly be nice to see a Pacfic or even Far East Mod.

The force strenght shown above however looks to be very one sided, I'm not that hot on the island hopping Pacfic campaigns, but would not Guadalcanal be more evenly matched?. The Japanese side has to have some chance of winning for it to be viable in H2H play, even if it is a slim one.

Cheers

Yeah, it may be one sided but look at the other mod's currently out there- Battle of Berlin or the current Stalingrad Operation Circle (which I am still playing as the Germans- never ending regenerating Russian Battle Groups definitely make that one sided). Iwo was one sided in real life- I think the ability of the Japanese to operate in tunnels/ bunkers and with excellent protection from airstrike and Naval Gunfire will definitely help. Just remember that they gave as much as they got in the real battle.

Now I can do the historical research- no problem- I could probably do the maps too if someone walked me through them. If we could scrounge up a graphics guru, and a coder I think it could work.

yeah most of you will find pacific mods really hard, as its often one sided IF accurate, as getting AI or even a human to be as cunning as japs is difficult. then representing moral, supply, terrain is SO difficult, u can try but i always found it very hard to believe compared to say GJS. especially the massive bunker systems, just so hard to attack and defend, LOS etc...

but its still good mods(cc3 pacific and ccv okinowa)

Hopefully the uniforms will b changed in the REDUX Smile
In the current version of Gung Ho! ... the Japanese are wearing German Feldgrau (to be more precise the light gray version that came with the original CC5 exe, not the correct shade of feldgrau Wink )

No probs. Just send me the CC5.exe...and let me know the values of the Style column of the **teams.adb for the Japanese Teams.
The US uniforms should be okay just by using the default CC5 values.
Are the adb files the same as the current version of Gung Ho! ?
PM me for my e-mail, my friend!

Like the Batt of Berlin Mod, I think this would be a momentously enjoyable mod for SP action.
It was the US marine's bloodiest battle in history.  I think it deserves some attention.

cheers
