PostPosted: Thu May 01, 2008 6:47 pm Post subject: Welcome to Bir Hakeim, The Free Frenchies mod Reply with quote

Hi to you all,

While working on the Eastern winter mods that you are aware of, I have been able these past months to work on BH. Bir Hakeim, the first victory of the General de Gaulle free Frenchies (held by General Koenig) in the desert of Lybia, June 1942.

I will have the time to present in more details this incredible piece of bravery until the mod is released, but I wanted to open this new forum today. Every month, I will update how the mod is progressing.

I have attached to this post two pics. One is close to what will be the mainscreen. The other one is a pot-pourri (yes, the forum will be soon french speaking, guys) of some pictures which will be included in the final version. I have put here pictures of these incredible people who, in 1940, said NO: we will continue the fight! They are smoking but very smart, aren't they? Some pictures as well on these colonial infantry who were fantastic fighters. Some pictures of these incredible "Tanake", these strange Dodge trucks, modified and armored in Syria by a french engineer. And many more will come.

I hope that BH will interest you. I know that for anybody but not french or ignoring WW2, BH is just a questionmark.

WW2 did not begin in 1944, guys!

Cheers, and have fun

PJ

Bonjour PJ,

nice to hear the Bir Hakeim mod is making progress. Perhaps you know that I made a 4800x4800 BirHacheim map for RtB/CCM some years ago. I know it is not histirical correct, because I could not get any pictures or original material. I think Moloch has also a BirHacheim map for his CC5-Afrika-Mod, but it was never released. A Screenshot of his BirHacheim-fort should be available somewhere.

Cheers et Bon Chance

Voof! A worthy choice for a less-explored area: I'm really looking forward to this one!

Can't wait to see the units, you have a lot of scope!

PJ, this looks to be an amazing slice of French resistance history. Should provide a great tribute to those who had the resolute will to 'fight on'.

The photos and screens in the gallery are awesome!

Thank you.

Due to me not having a massive interest in the North African campaign, I'd never read up on this battle..but wow, I just have and I can't wait to play it.

Ha ha ha...yea too much focus on Normany, Holland and Belgium. North Africa doesn't have nearly enough mods, nor historical coverage for that matter. It would be cool to see some French Foreign Legion squads too. Although I heard there were only a small number here.

PJ the desert terrain might pose new A.I. challenges do you think? Also the scale of maps? In real life air superiority was crucial as tanks had nowhere to hide. Regarding infantry...they likewise were frequently dominated by armour and it was difficult to take cover.

I am curious to see how this mod compares to the mostly urban winter combat of your previous mods.

By the way...maybe the FFL Dom and other French mod-makers have any interest in helping you with maps etc? I heard the Crete mod by FFL was postponed, but maybe they have some maps that are suitable for North Africa?

Yes, the foreign legion equipment and fighting ability will be facinating to observe.

But I fear that the AI will just have tanks wandering around in circles, while the AT gunners swat flies..

In August of 2004, Zappi, Homba, Bambam887, RedScorpion and MOOXE all pitched
in to create this Close Combat site. I would to thank all the people who have visited and
found this site to thier liking. I hope you had time to check out some of the great Close Combat
mods and our forums. I'd also like to thank all the members of our volunteer staff that have
helped over the years, and all our users that contributed to this site!
