I was very impressed by the Portuguese by the way.

oh yes they played awesome offensive soccer. But the problem of portugal is Ronaldo, who lacks experience to keep the nervs in crucial games and their goolie. Even middleclass teams can beat Portugal if they score first.
@ Pete: Btw. the quote you use "Dulce bellum inexpertis" is not from Desiderius Erasmus, but the latin proverb/version of Pindars "War is sweet to those who have no experience of it [...]."
Imagine the world would had to wait until old Erasmus comes along to think about this central element of war culture... no no it was Pindar 470 BC and before him certainly an assyrian, sumeran or indian scholar.

Heart says Spain ......but the Head says Germany, some fine games so far but lets all see what the skillful Italians and amazing French show us this week, one thing is certain we are in for some fabulous football over the coming weeks.
Nice finishing by the Germans today BTW, they look deadly when they reach the penalty area.
Good luck to all your countries, may the best team win
Cheers

in spite of not agreeing with Scolari in lots os his options, i think that we portuguese can win the euro...
our team is not a middle one, if not a couple of remarks,
in defense 3 chelsea players ( Ricardo Carvalho, Paulo Ferreira and Boswinga) and one from real Madrid...
midfield, Deco and João Moutinho (those who dont´t know him don´t know football)...
Strikers, Cristiano ronaldo (in spite of everything the best palyer in the world this year), Nani (MU), Ricardo Quaresma...
this are some of the best know players and some of the best in the world...
then the working bees, Miguel Veloso, Bruno Alves, Raul Meireles, even Petit, Simão Sabrosa, etc...
i think and hope we are a powerful and flexibe KampfGruppe...i think we maybe be the surprise...
in the last euro we were second and inn the world cup, fourth, so dont count us out...

wow Nederlands rocks in an open clash with Italy. I love such games! it was like a fist fight.
Beware from the Orange blitz attacks! 3:0 against the world champions...

Well, we might have a chance after all. Van Basten the uebertalent may have fathered a wunderkind himself
@ polemarchos: thanks for pointing that out , about the quote, looks like I'm gonna have to adjust my signature

Great result for the Dutch I agree, one of the best performances from them for 20 years....like seeing the team of yesteryear come to life again, but all credit to Italy too, they NEVER stopped fighting for a goal right up to the last minute, I don't think we have seen the last of the world champions yet .
On a side note.......Anyone else spot the Russian team badge?
The double headed Romanov eagle!........How times change

ah! my vote toke Portugal to the top of the poll.
Even with an average goalkeeper and a stuburn coach but theres hope... besides Deco is in shape and Moutinho finally grabbed is place in the midfield.
We will face difficulties against tall teams the rest we can shew up
Spain looks impressive as always..
Germany with a solid game as always (but no ...)
I´m betting the winner will come out of one of those 3

ok,
Nederlands is like a deathstar fighting against a Pz I. They deserve the title.
If any only Portugal or Spain can stop them.
