Most RTS games have bad vehicle pathing.
With the CC Series...once you get used to it...you can actually have some control over CC's 'lady AFV drivers' (like using short waypoints, using sneak order to reverse, issuing short move order to make AFVs change their arc etc...it's tedious and a bit of a micromanagement hassle but it works).
I agree with Tejszd, the individual soldiers AI in the CC series is still one of the best with IMHO the most elegant and user-friendly gameplay implementation. A few other PC wargames have some sort of detailed soldier behaviour AI too...but most involve a lot of micromanaging the individual soldiers.
As for CSO/S3T rereleases...just don't expect too much...and it looks like most of the CC engine flaws won't be fixed in the rereleases. The introduction of "girlie soldier" (TM) AI may annoy veteran CC players used to the old AI and how the old soldiers behave...and I don't think vehicle pathing will be drastically fixed...CMIIW
As for playing single player CC4-CC5? Once you get used to the CC AI flaws...you can still have some fun and give yourself a challenge. If you search the forums there's plenty of tips to enjoy the game playing against the AI (play as the attacker, specialized vetmods etc).
But I agree that for experienced wargamers...the CC AI out of the box is really bad and will disappoint new players. |

Bad AI (opposition in H2H) is one thing, and good modelled soldier is a totally other thing, one v good don’t make op for one extremely poor thing.
And talking of good soldier modelling in THE old Atomics CC1-5 series, even that is IMO diminished in the new relises, and I talk of the "new" "girly soldier enhancement" (the ones tested the leaked WaR BETA say its included in that to).
So, buy WaR its not purely a pricing topic to me, I will simply not buy another new relise will the “girly soldier enhancement” included.
I really hope they removed the girly thing so I at least can consider buy WaR, and then, and only then, would I complain about WaR be overpriced. ( becose I assume WaR will have a “enhanced” price tag) no? : ) |

I can get used to dysfunctional AI. When I'm not paying for a game or its publisher acknowledges that he's selling a faulty product and sells it for lowered price. |

True...
But IMO CC is best for simulating small engagements in the smaller maps (original CC4-CC5 maps...also CC3 maps)...so the vehicles don't really have to move that much...just short hops to support the infantry...and best used at maximum range. But of course with the huge maps featured in CCMT...the poor vehicle pathing are magnified

Well that won't happen anytime soon...and the developers are especially sensitive when longtime CC fans criticize their work |

Actually, I remember having much more problems with vehicles in CCV, mainly because it features slow and slowly rotating vehicles - there are a few things as annoying as giving an assault gun an order to move to certain point and then seeing it slowly rotate in opposite direction. It was a nightmare. |

Yep...you gotta get used to issuing short movement orders (or giving them short specific waypoints)...and then maybe babysit the thing too sometimes. You might have to do the same thing with the Infantry Squads in WAR |

At one point in my life I was guilty of using this reason to convince people to try this game, I have since changed my ways.
What training value is actually being extracted from Close Combat by a single british regiment and the USMC?
Lets not forget the USMC uses tons of computer based training aids which have included FPS games, Close Combat is just a drop in the bucket. The scope of thier use of Close Combat is unknown to us, and the value they have recieved is also unknown. Do they still even use it?
Using the USMC or the RAF Regt to prop up an arguement is no good unless we have facts. |

I think the USMC and RAF Regiment use CC for reflex training...carefully herding and multiple clicking on little men on a PC screen is good for hand-eye coordination |

So, you are defending those crooks from Atomic Games? Frankly, it makes me sick. Yeah, but junkies always defend their dealer.
Anyway, what it has to do with the new release? |

Best idea? Yeah, one of the best in it's genre. Best quality? No, one of the worst.
It would be really nice if they have finished it before releasing it.
Anyway, it's all irrelevant, as CC5 box didn't have a warning about faulty vehicle pathfinding, which makes Atomic Game crooks, no question about it.
Why should I not play it? I got my CC4 for free from a gaming magazine and I bought CC5 when it price was 5 times lower than when it was released. Of course, I would never buy a them for their initial price. I'm not paying good money for unfinished games just as a publisher wouldn't sell me a game less money than it's price tag says. |

I know a way to fix vehicle pathing.
No vehicles!
From the CC5 Readme.txt file
9) At times, you may find that your vehicles are having a hard time reaching the
location you have designated for them. Keep in mind that large vehicles, like tanks,
are not always able to manuever in small places. Trying to move your tank through narrow
paths will result in either you receiving a "No Clear Path" message or your tank
moving in strange directions in order to obey your impossible command.
If you find that a tank, or any team for that matter, is having
difficulty moving to the point you have designated, use waypoints and take small,
incremental steps to get there. Do not forget that obstacles like destroyed vehicles
can block the path of a tank.

The best part is when uses the waypoint thing only to discover that a tank can start turn in opposite direction to a waypoint that is 10 metres away . |

So it seems that 10 meters is not within the definition of small, incremental steps mentioned in the readme
Try small baby step waypoints. At least in the orginal/old releases these multiple small waypoints work...with new girlie drivers (replacing old CCs women drivers) and the dreaded "Movement Aborted!" when fired upon or seeing the enemy...those carefully carved waypoint markers will just disappear |
