Quote:
URGENT - VOTING IN EU PARLIAMENT 5th of MAY 2009
Don't let the EU parliament lock up the Internet! There will be no way back!

Act now!
Internet access is not conditional

Everyone who owns a website has an interest in defending the free use of Internet... so has everyone who uses Google or Skype... everyone who expresses their opinions freely, does research of any kind, whether for personal health problems or academic study ... everyone who shops online...who dates online...socialises online... listens to music...watches video...

Millions of Europeans now depend on the Internet, directly or indirectly, for their livelihood. Taking it away, chopping it up, ‘restricting it', ‘limiting it' and placing conditions on our use of it, will have a direct impact on people's earnings. And in the current financial climate, that can't be good.

The internet as we know it is at risk because of proposed new EU rules going through end of April. Under the proposed new rules, broadband providers will be legally able to limit the number of websites you can look
at, and to tell you whether or not you are allowed to use particular services. It will be dressed up as ‘new consumer options' which people can choose from. People will be offered TV-like packages - with a limited
number of options for you to access.

It means that the Internet will be packaged up and your ability to access and to put up content could be severely restricted. It will create boxes of Internet accessibility, which don't fit with the way we use it today. This is because internet is now permitting exchanges between persons which cannot be controlled or "facilitated" by any middlemen (the state or a corporation) and this possibility improves the citizen's life but force the industry to lose power and control. that's why they are pushing governments to act those changes.

The excuse is to control the flow of music, films and entertainment content against the alleged piracy by downloading for free, using P2P file-sharing. However, the real victims of this plan will be all Internet users and the democratic and independent access to information, culture goods.

Think about how you use the Internet! What would it mean to you if free access to the Internet was taken away?
These days, the Internet is about life and freedom. It's about shopping, booking theatre tickets ... holidays, learning, job-seeking, banking, and trade. It's also about the fun things - dating, chatting, invitations, music, entertainment, joking and even a Second Life. It is a tool to express ourselves, to collaborate, innovate, share, stimulate new business ideas, reach new markets - thrive without middlemen..

Just think - what's your web address? Unless people have that address in their "package" of regular websites - they won't be able to find you. That means they can't buy, or book, or register, or even view you online. Your business won't be able to find niche suppliers of goods - and compare prices. If you get any money at all from advertising on your site, it will diminish. Yes, Amazon and a select few will be OK, they will be the included in the package. But your advertising on Google or any other website, will be increasingly worthless. Skype could be blocked. (As it is in Germany in the use from iPhone, already). Small businesses could literally disappear, especially specialist, niche or artisan businesses.

If we don't do something now - we could lose free and open use of the internet. Our freedom (of choice in information, market, culture, pleasure) will be curtailed. The EU proposals hold an enormous risk for our future. They are about to become Law - and will be virtually impossible to reverse. People (even the members of the European Parliament who are voting on it) don't really seem to understand the full implications and the legal changes are wrapped up in something called "Telecoms Package" which lulls people into thinking it is just about industry.

However, in reality, hiding from public view, the amendments are about the way the Internet will operate in future! Text that expresses your rights to access and distribute content, services and applications, is being crossed out. And the text that is being brought in, says that broadband providers must inform you of any limitations, or restrictions to your broadband service. Alternative versions use the word ‘conditions' - and it is seriously being proposed that you will be told the conditions of use of Internet services. This is made to sound good - it is dressed up as ‘transparency' - except that of course it means that the broadband providerwill have the legal right restrict your access or impose conditions, otherwise why would they need tell you? If the Telecoms Package amendmentsare voted in, the changes will not be reversible.

We all have a stake in the Internet! You need to act now to save it!
What can you do about it?
Tell the European Parliament to vote against conditional access to the Internet! Remind them that they need your vote in June and that internet still give us the tools to be watching and judging what they are doing! (link a la quadrature du net) You must know you are not alone: hundreds of organizations are working on that and thousands of people have already contact their parliamentarians about this issue.

There is one thing that the world elite does not control, it is the interwebs.
You can say now goodbye to the freedom of speech.
EU is becoming the most controlled nation after China.

We are about to loose the last free democracy in the world, and most people don't know or don't care...

Anyone else thinking of 1984 or Fahrenheit 451?

Me. Though it seems that it's mostly in interests of some telecomunication corporations that want to use the Internet as their own, tightly controlled limited network with packages of limited amount of websites so that they can rip off tons of cash for access to websites.

There's a list of these telecomunication corporations somewhere in the links. I think that no matter if this will pass or not, we need to make sure that these corporations won't go unpunished - this requires organising a widespread boycott of their services.

The main goal isn't a political one but an unfair competition - for example one German company blocked Skype so that it wouldn't compete with their phone services.
Similarly Orange in Poland is already interested in using the packet based system of services.

The result won't be a political control of the Internet but practically killing it for corporate profits.

I must admit that I'm a hardcore anarchist, who don't believe in our "semi-democratic" system and the new noblemen; -Politicians...

But as soon as they realise what they can do by buying the right to control the internet, I'm sure they will use it to present the "right" information and block what they think is "wrong" and "Political Incorrect"...  Evil or Very Mad

I don't believe in politicians either. And I hate judges. IMHO, politicians and judges are some of the worst scum of this world.

Anyway, the whole Telecom Package got rejected and it will be voted on after the elections.
Which makes me regret that Polish Pirate Party doesn't candidate.
Anyway, there's some time to inform more people and start riots peaceful protests.

Actually, pro-european parties seem to be very popular and get most of the votes Confused .

In my district it was something like 1000 votes for pro-europeans and 100 for eurosceptics , I have voted for eurosceptics Confused .

Personally, I don't see a point in further "integration".

Even worse, French and British try to enforce three strike rule (if you pirate, you get 3 warnings and then you are cut off from the Internet for life - without a court verdict Confused ), Germans want to ban computer games.

IMHO, what EU does is an average of all the states, which means that both people with common sense and worst dumbfucks have something to say.
Which is pretty horrible, because some countries have so dumb politicians that they should be kicked out so that they wouldn't fuck up lives of peoples from normal countries.

well i dont know where u live, but the EU started in the 50's and it was all about free trade and markets, that to me is a good idea but that's where it should end, every country is slightly different, we all have our own little customs and different ways of life and they exist for a reason, Im not against immigration and all that stuff but what the  EU is trying to do is to bring us all down to the same level, destroying cultures and the constitutions of all the countries in the EU, in fact it overrides everything and local politician are just there to talk crap cuz they know they cant do much, it makes me laugh when i see parties like the UKIP, they say they want out the EU but they need votes from all the european countries to get us out which wont happen, so its all a huge lie, it was all orchestrated by a few industrialists and business men that want globalization for their own profit and couldnt give a rats ass about the people, their only preoccupation is to create new laws that are both laughable, cumbersome and restrict personal freedoms by the day

If we get the chance to vote on anything to do with the EU, like change of currency etc, then do so with an anti europe perspective. But that is a BIG "if".

But I guess there is also the real prospect of any vote that turns out anti europe being ignored anyway Rolling Eyes  Evil or Very Mad

well the vote has been rejected , remember the lisbon treaty? the only country that was given the opportunity to vote said a big NO and what happened? they are planning to make them vote again! is this democracy? if u dont agree then we will keep trying until u change ur mind while we brainwash u with more propaganda paid for by the taxpayers lol, it sounds pretty much like something that happened about 65 yrs ago doesnt it :)

I dont know what we can do about it but personally i dont watch telly anymore and i dont trust the mainstream media cuz they all controlled by globalist corporations ah and one more thing......as we have all seen from the london protests, peaceful crowds protesting get disbanded and bashed in the head by the police, they are taking the right to protest away with some stupid terror laws so we all become terrorists and we all need to be controlled by the state

Wasn't Euro about the "free trade" part thing of European Union? Right now prices in international trade can suddenly change because of some economical hocus-pocus.
For example, one day I could buy a book for 29 PLN, but a week later it costed 35 PLN.
It's hard to plan anything under such conditions.

AFAIK, our president is blocking Lisbon treaty anyway. He sometimes acts like a moron, but it seems that I'll have to vote for him in next presidential elections so that he would keep doing it.

Do you have any link with a relation from this event, preferably including pictures and footage?
I could make some noise about it on Polish forums. We don't like this kind of things around here.

I posted a link to the Blackout Europe forums on many Polish forums that I attend so that it would be possible to stage protests in every Polish city, but no one registered on it.
It's pathetic Evil or Very Mad .

Shit, I've seen enough.

To me it looks like some policemen lost their cool and fucked up their job when they felt threatened and then their victim instead of backing off and suing them later lost his cool too and a peaceful demonstration turned into a little riot - judging by how somehow the guys that started moving towards the police and started angry chanting were masked and the guys that started destroying windows were the only other masked men, it looks like some organization that didn't like the idea of peaceful protest, which is always an issue when you have a demonstration that isn't organized and overwatched by a single coherent and disciplined organization. Hell I saw some skinheads on videos that seemed to have something against the others and were told "fight the police not us!"

To me it looks like a big fail of organisation and serious disciplinary issues in police.

He was attacked by a single policeman and other policemen helped him when he has collapsed.
I saw the video and it looked like the policeman was some pumped-up jerk who was too stress out and looked for anyone who he could take stress out on. It's something straight from my old primary school.

Seriously, don't get scared away from demonstrating and protesting. Just remember that both sides are human and lowest instincts can override rational behaviour.
Or that things that seem to be rational at the moment turn out to be terrible mistake.

Anyway, it's one dead in 5000 people - it means that chance of actually getting killed during a demonstration are way less than 1 percent.

Personally, I'm more surprised why they have allowed painting stuff on buildings, etc. After all, it's vandalism.
