So apart from making the maps darker and reducing the visability distance coded in the maps, how are you going to simulate night vision? I presume you mean NVD's and passive IR which some troops and vehicles will have and others won't. |

I'm a bit curious on this as well. I played with some ideas and nothing really ever was functional or playable when trying to add NV equipment. You could either have the whole game played at night or the whole game played in day and that is about it. I'm still trying to figure out a way to model Thermal sighting (Which can target through smoke) also which just flat out will not co-operate. |

Stwa I found I quite enjoyed the night battles in TLD
As for Night Vision etc I think it would be a hard ask to create it
But I like your concept of purely night or alternately day/night/day/night etc.
It would add a little bit more to the game
I'm sure someone would have the know how from TLD
But like most I'm a gamer only and I dips my lid to the map makers and modders who have made CC what it is today
One can only live in hope! |
You know if you don't live it.... You can't give it. |

I am note sure you should code it in the elements. If i am not mistaken you do it when you create the LOS file, this allows you to set the maximum distance a soldier or vehicle can see.
Before the days of IR and NVD devices, the LOS would be greatly reduced, more so for tanks than infantry. For modern warfare the tanks are at a relative advantage compared to infantry as they can't carry around bulky passive IR devices that tanks can.
If you did a sub-mod for night fighting you could simulate the difference for tanks and other vehicles that did not carry IR devices by shortening the ranges of weapons PB Close Med and long such that they can't engage at long distances. The same could be done for troops without NVD. Basically you know the enemy is there but u can't get a good shot. |
