So I used to play CC back in the day, against the AI and also against my brother. Then I did not touch the game for about 4-5 years due to work/school etc. I have recently started playing again and saw the re-releases out there. Are they worth it? Does anybody play them or do they stick with the old games w/ mods. If I was to pick up a new game (they are on sale right now) which one/s would be the ones to get?

thanks in advance

Any particular reason why the old one is better? I will have to dig through my old cds and dvds to see what I have for maps and mods.

Theres mods to play. The classic GJS and Stalingrad. Also easier to find a game of classic online.

All true points about CC5.

On the positive side for the re-releases they do fix most of the bugs in CC5 and add a number of new features....

~night battles
~64 map strat play instead of 44
~differnt voice ques for different nations
~A fuller range of Allied vehecles rather than just US
~point system for h2h play
~slowed scroll speeds
~windowed play

Probably best to get The Longest Day (TLD) being the latest. Though there is a rumour that a Patch is in the work for WAR to add features from TLD.

Is TLD really worth getting though?  Is the vanilla game good enough on its own merit, because I'm thinking I should hold back on getting it until some great not-to-be-missed mod(s) come out for it.

I don't know though, decisions, decisions.  I guess it can't hurt to get a copy.  But at the same time, what's the real point?

Thanks for all the input guys. I have CC3 and CC5 but cannot find my CC4 disc, I probably lost it somewhere along the way. I really did enjoy CC4 with some of the mods, so I was thinking of picking up WAR. i don't know if I will pick up any of the other re-releases yet.

Theres good and bad to each side. Generally those that have been away from the scene so long find TLD to be good, those that are still playing CC5 or CC4 find the rerelease to be unsatisfactory. I think the reason is they just like Close Combat, nothing specifically about TLD.

Well, if you have CC5 already, why not install it and try a few games, just to be sure you still like CC.  Question

Everyone feels differently, but this is how I weigh in on the new features.

~night battles  Arrow  This might be interesting

~64 map strat play instead of 44  Arrow I found 44 to be too many, never got to em all.

~differnt voice ques for different nations  Arrow I don't use the voice cues anymore.

~A fuller range of Allied vehecles rather than just US  Arrow My main interest is US vehicles.

~point system for h2h play  Arrow I don't play h2h.

~slowed scroll speeds  Arrow My rig is 2.0 Ghz, ATI 9600, so not really an issue.

~windowed play  Arrow This would be nice, but mainly so I could have a background graphic behind the UI.

I have CC5 installed and have been playing it lots lately. I want to play H2H though so I need to find some time and go online.

In August of 2004, Zappi, Homba, Bambam887, RedScorpion and MOOXE all pitched
