This is really about two problems:

1) When I use the CCstarter uitlity to disable direct draw and boot up CC2, the intro is fine (i.e. the circular motion doesn't take forever).  However, once I get in-game, it gives me the old "can't access surface for lock error."  What gives?  It seems to me like directdraw was disabled, for a whole two seconds, then it comes back on again.  What's going wrong here?

Side note: when I normally start the game with direct draw on (It can't be turned off manually with my video card) there is no "can't access surface for lock" message, just the characteristic lag.

2) After this happened with all the CC Games, I decided to start in safe mode and play; perhaps that would fix it.  Lo and behold, it did.  All the CC games ran marvelously...except for sound.  I realized that the problem was my video drivers.  I booted normally and disabled my newer video drivers reverting back to the Standard VGA adapter and the game gives me a "Display is not supported on your card blah blah nonsense" when I just played it on the same adapter five minutes ago.

Long story short,  a fix in any one of these two areas would allow me to play CC in its full, un-laggy glory and would be much appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

I have also tried running the game in all compatibility modes.  None work.

In August of 2004, Zappi, Homba, Bambam887, RedScorpion and MOOXE all pitched
in to create this Close Combat site. I would to thank all the people who have visited and
found this site to thier liking. I hope you had time to check out some of the great Close Combat
mods and our forums. I'd also like to thank all the members of our volunteer staff that have
helped over the years, and all our users that contributed to this site!
