OK - installed CC:COI on a new Windows 7 64bit system. Start it up and I just get a quick bit of music which stops, then a black screen with a cursor. Searching the board, I tried an install of an Intel Codec, but that didn't help (in fact, it said you already have a new version and skipped parts of the install.)

Help! Wanting to get back into some CC wargaming goodness!

Go to your install folder...should be something like:
[drive]:\Program Files\Close Combat\Close Combat III\

Edit CC3.exe compatibility options and enable "Run as administrator".

Launch CC3.exe while holding down the CTRL key...this should bring you to the options menu...disable videos...and you should be good Smile

General tip for Windows 7 users which I have often found helpful:

Right click on the executable (i.e. CC3.exe in this case) and run the Compatibility Troubleshooter.  I have been surprised how often it has worked!  I had hassles manually trying to leverage CCIV onto Windows 7, but the Compatibility Troubleshooter got it going, though there is still an issue with the program 'Stopping' when trying to Exit, so it crashes rather than exits gracefully.  Hasn't seemed to affect anything so far though.

Oh yes, and run as Adminstrator of course!

Disabling the Video's as squadleader_id says is a good way to get CC to open with a new install when it goes to a black screen.

In August of 2004, Zappi, Homba, Bambam887, RedScorpion and MOOXE all pitched
in to create this Close Combat site. I would to thank all the people who have visited and
found this site to thier liking. I hope you had time to check out some of the great Close Combat
mods and our forums. I'd also like to thank all the members of our volunteer staff that have
helped over the years, and all our users that contributed to this site!
