As far as I know it don't depend on the health of the officer. No concrete examples, but I think I've seen that the keep their command radius and influence. But it would be nice with a rock-solid answer!

I have never spotted any effect of a command team loosing its influence due to loss of the commander within a battle. In CCIII if you do not replace a dead officer before the next battle then the command radius becomes small and black if i am not mistaken, presumably reflecting the command ability of the most senior remaining rank.

Thanks guys, you've confirmed what I suspected. It doesnt seem right that a command squad down to its last private solider should exert an influence - so I'm going to reduce command squads down to just the officer actually in charge!

In the heat battle...soldiers/squads in the vicinity of a Command Squad might not be able to see the leaders getting hit...all they know is that "part of the Command Team" is still alive, functioning and leading them

True
so it depends on the situation. Let's say that the ones that are not informed, must not have much trouble with it during battle.
But for the game, the command radius itself counts for the troups who are close to command group, so they know he died...well in that case i would say command radius need to drop.
But (correct me if i'm wrong) if there's a collective moral decrease, then the ones who doesn't know must not be influenced by the fact their leader died... or not directly
