Life is good, since you learn something new every day!  Smile

Maybe not a smiley subject, but I was just watching a documentary on Viasat History about the recovery of the remains of a USAF pilot shot down near Leipzig on April 13 1945. A bit impressing that they wanted and could find enough remains of the pilot to preform a DNA identification after 60 years, and I'm further impressed that the US armed forces have an entire organisation (JPAC) for searching and identifying missing soldiers.

The after-text stated that as many as 75.000 US soldiers are still MIA after WW II, but they identify the remains of two soldiers every week. (Not sure if they meant overall, or WW II soldiers though)

Thought MIA soldiers was a bit like in the old the Dubliers song: "What's lost is lost, and gone forever"'

The JPAC homepage:

"When the tough gets going, I run to live to run another day..."

"Is this trip really necessary?"

I saw a show about a pilot shot down over Nth Vietnam where they spent ages researching the crash site, talking to witnesses then narowing down to a dig site. They eventually found the wreck with a different pilot! But still, one more MIA accounted for.
