Proof of ammo scavenging:

Set up a little custom battle in CC3, 60% ammo for both sides. Got one sniper to scavenge ammo from other dead sniper.

Very nice demonstration, Pzt_Kanov! I'm sold!
So if soldiers do scavenge ammo...the original devs should have implemented ammo sharing between squad members  Idea

If I am not mistaken crewed weapons can normally only be picked up by a similar crew who are out of ammo. Ammo sharing would be good to implement. Infantry men in sections often carry ammo for the automatic weapon, or mortar rounds for the light mortar etc. Section commanders are tasked to ensure that those low on ammo are topped up by others.

Depends what type of crewed weapons then. I have never seen a mortar scavenged. I have seen a Panzershrek team pick up a Schweres MG42 though, this was CC5.

Anyone want to see if they can get a non-mortar team to pick up a mortar?

I think I have picked up rounds from a dead mortar crew by a mortar crew, but that may be my fuzzy memory and over active imagination speaking.

Doesn't the game do this, after a fashion, by having enough men in a team to carry the load, even though the actual weight is carried by one man (which is why these teams string out so easily)?

Murphy was colocated with a command group.  Command group got wiped out, old Murph was outa rounds so scrounged a Sten.  Very demeaning for a sniper let me tell you!!

Btw.  He won the day for the team.

I was playing TRSM with Pzt_Serk the other day. One of my shermans was knocked out, and the veh crew fled to the building adjacent to the wreck. They are not able to recieve orders in TRSM. While fighting in the chateau my regular infantry were all killed, and Serk made his way towards my tank crew. They stood fast for awhile inflicting casualties in hand to hand and very close quater combat. The last two survivors scavenged a thompson, and an MG42! Sadly, they died soon after. They were not in a good spot to use the MG42 effective but ciyld have inflicted kills if Serk came in the right direction.

Now let's not get uppity!

Even Simo Häyhä wasn't above resorting to a mere sub machine gun although he only killed 200 with it.

... and I'll just exit stage left before anyone cottons on to the contrast between a Sten and a Suomi...

In late CCs scavenging depends on intelligence and experience, I think. Look at gunner Deniz! It's Panzershreck from KIA AT team.

Yep, in CC3 (RR Mod tested) soldiers DO scavenge.
Just tested it and two soldiers in a Strelki squad picked up a shiny new MP40 and a rifle with 90 rounds.
Not just ammo then..

Real Life Scavenger wins MOH
___________________________________________

PRIVATE GEORGE T. SAKATO
UNITED STATES ARMY

for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty:

Private George T. Sakato distinguished himself by extraordinary heroism in action on 29 October 1944, on hill 617 in the vicinity of Biffontaine, France. After his platoon had virtually destroyed two enemy defense lines, during which he personally killed five enemy soldiers and captured four, his unit was pinned down by heavy enemy fire. Disregarding the enemy fire, Private Sakato made a one-man rush that encouraged his platoon to charge and destroy the enemy strongpoint. While his platoon was reorganizing, he proved to be the inspiration of his squad in halting a counter-attack on the left flank during which his squad leader was killed. Taking charge of the squad, he continued his relentless tactics, using an enemy rifle and P-38 pistol to stop an organized enemy attack. During this entire action, he killed 12 and wounded two, personally captured four and assisted his platoon in taking 34 prisoners. By continuously ignoring enemy fire, and by his gallant courage and fighting spirit, he turned impending defeat into victory and helped his platoon complete its mission. Private Sakato's extraordinary heroism and devotion to duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit on him, his unit, and the United States Army.

Scavenging is a cool CC feature. Just crawl over dead bodies...  you can pick up all kinds of crap. My favorite Scavenger story > my commander was a sole survivor of a group cut down by a tank, after hiding in bodies he scavenged a flamethrower turned it on the tank and took it out in one burst.

I agree with you that scavenging is great but how often did flamethrower operators die without being immolated?

So I was just curious if 81mm mortar teams could scavenge from enemy 81mm mortar teams.

Here are my results..

1. Normal dead 81mm team
2. Team killed by flamethrower, my troops would not scavenge
3. My team scavenged this mortar team
Theres a fourth dead team below the word "Teams" in my image text. That is where they scavenged from. This team was killed by rifle and mg fire.

Success!

After they were finishing setting up the mortar, ammo went to 0.

What happened?
