Its playable on Vista, I have done it. Make sure you run it in compatibility mode, experiement with them until you find the one that works. Do it by right clicking the short cut and entering the compatibility tab.

How do you run it in compatibility mode? The only opinions I have are INSTALL DIRECTX MPLAYER, etc..

I'm wondering why is it that every time I exit CCIV I always get an error that states.......
Close Combat(tm)IV: The Battle of the Bulge has stopped working
windows can check online for a solution to the problem.
Then I have the option to search for a solution or close the program.
I always just close the program.
I have tried running with no compatibility and all the various modes under compatibility.

That is the error I always got/get with 1 particular mod for CC5, which leads me to believe it's maybe a bad install of CC4, or a corrupted disk/ISO you installed the game from P/M? That particular mod I mentioned got so "sticky" once it wouldn't even uninstall from the mod config manager and had to uninstall the entire game and all the pieces, config manager, registry wipe, etc.. to fix everything.

I tried to install the 4.2 patch but I got an error that it can't read the registry. I can't even find it in the registry in regedit. This is very frustrating!
What is the standard file path for installing cc4? I will re-install it to that path and maybe the patch will read it.

I know this is an old thread, but instead of making a new one I thought I'd just add this here.
I decided to install CC4 after several years hiatus, I'm using Windows Vista 32-bit and it's fully updated. The game is patched to v4.02 and it runs perfectly, I don't even need to use compatibility mode, I just run it as administrator. The only problem I have with the game, is that when I exit out of it, the program crashes every time just like Platoon Michael mentions. I've tried running it with different compatibility settings, but it makes no difference. It doesn't effect anything, it's just an annoyance more than anything.
I remember having that problem with the CC3 Trial as well.
