@Sod - American politicians in Congress are just too afraid of offending their Big $ lobbyists in military-industrial complex, for profit-prison and police state factions and the pharmaceutical industries...just to name a few. Also because they are afraid of raising taxes on their ultra wealthy Billionaire donors. America could basically pay off the entire debt immediately by cutting the budget, modest tax increases, and closing scam loopholes that are written into the the tax code by various interests.
It does not seem likely that America will cut its bloated Defense budget any time soon if ever. The War Hawks are on steroids right now trying to conflate Iraq or any other crisis into a blank check to raise spending even more. Even though we had the greatest increase in spending while we simultaneously cut taxes for the wealthy (cutting our revenues)...they keep wanting to spend more and more. Which may end up making America like USSR and go kaput in the future.

US economy is already in the toilet. In real terms their Foreign debt is 106pc of their GDP. Although not at 3rd world rates of debt, it's catching fast. Compare that debt to Russia who has a much smaller GDP. But Russia's Foreign debt is just 23pc of their GDP. Put that in terms of household debt. If you owe more than you earn and over many years. At some time comes the bust. US already pays the lowest possible amount of interest for hold off default repayts, hyper inflation and run away debt. USA can't keep living beyond their means and keep printing cash that only creates a false economy. Just too many are too scared to admit the truth before them.
Only thing saving US still is the dollar reserve currency status (being able to print money without the negative effects locally), which is is under attack from multiple sources, and exactly that is what the US is protecting fiercely (Iraq/Libya wanted to pay for oil in Euro for example, see what happened). World politics is pretty simple once you start to see the main drivers, i.e. oil/dollar/gold and access to natural resources.
Why the US can sell weapons to everyone (incl. banned clusterbombs), but Russia can not, and why Iran is set away as the muslim "axis of evil", even while USA's 'big friend' of Saudi Arabia is the epitome of muslim extremism (including supposed backing of the 9/11 hijackers and IS, for whatever is true of those stories), beats me. Hypocritical is a eufemism.

USA is the Number 1 Military weapons supplier for the last 10 years. Not bad as they have fooled the public into believing things like providing democracy, freedoms and liberty. Really they provide death, destruction and misery. Every country they have attacked is now far worse off economically and politically unstable.

Governments all have ways to manipulate media especially in their own nation. It is a routine part of Government. Russia is reverting back to old days with control over media. You are wrong about CNN. Yes they do tend to like to promote war stories because they will get a boost in ratings which means more $ from advertisers. Facts don't matter as long as they get ratings.
Iraq was sold to CNN and media by Dick Cheney and his War Hawk snake oil salesmen. Finally there is at least one person (Paul) in his party with balls to confront Cheney, McCain, Graham and the snake oil salesmen that led America into Iraq based on a pack of lies.

I thought we had press freedom here in the Netherlands, but I now realize the narratives here are completely controlled by higher powers (government/NATO/US). The selectiveness of the news and downright propaganda is shocking, once you know the actual facts (by checking multiple sources). For the average Joe, reading the paper and watching the eight o'clock news, the worldview is quite distorted from reality. You need to actively look for different sources, usually outside your own country, to understand the news and the world, at least for a little bit.

Corporate media giants pedal their own agendas or what they think their big $ & Partisan sponsors want to hear. I don't blame the people, I blame the corporations or state-run media that intentionally dumbs-down the news and distort facts for ratings. If I see one more news story on Bruce Jenner or Realty TV gender identity gossip, i'm going to throw my television out the window. What a heap of crap the media is throwing at us like a bunch of monkeys. That is an insult to monkeys.

So finally you have done some research and found out that what I have said is true about US media being owned by the Multi Nats.The percentage is growing rapidly. Just like in the early 1980's 56 Corps owned 90% of all US media. Keep going and you will find out that the richest 1% of the world own 48pc of all the worlds wealth. That is a conservative figure,but that is all that can be traced to date. The figure could go as high as 60% tops.

That shooting down of the Russian aircraft was more to do with Russia stopping stolen Syrian oil going into Turkey ( IS ) than anything else. They all have a process for air violations over Iraq and Syria. Turkey never used it. Greece have said that if Turkey wants to go by those rules then they would be shooting Turkish aircraft down every other day. Sadly Turkey appears one of the countries aiding IS but want to hammer the Kurds.
