So the new mobilization in Russia coming. Also, new troops in Karelia are direct response to Finland's move to NATO, even while blocked by Erdogan currently.
Strategically, the war more and more resembles WW1&2, and thus only a similar scale operations are needed to grab any significant changes on frontline. Somma, Uran, Saturn - when a million soldiers with tens thousands tanks and artillery pieces comes in advance. Right now both sides have no resources nor troops quantity, who will concentrate needed forces first - will change the war for at least next half year. The popular in Russia in the past propaganda stickers 'Can repeat' about WW2 victories suddenly became a 'Should repeat' - love this kind of post-irony.
Cannot read that one, site wants too much information and won't let you in if refused.
Is there a recent Russian article on active defense?
Main points from the article:
-the conflict is between the West and Russia, supported by China;
-the confrontation turned into an economic confrontation (Athena's war), which developed into a world war phase (waiting for a set of related conflicts);
-The West supplies weapons and participates in the murder of Russians;
-Ukraine before the conflict was a decaying society and a failed state;
-external funding, military actions and assassinations helped Ukraine find the balance that was lost (very temporary...);
-did not expect such an outbreak of hostilities, but understands the logic of Russia - this is a response to the expansion / offensive of NATO;
-there are opinions that Ukraine de facto became a member of NATO, he does not share it, but still...;
-a defeat in Ukraine could cost the US collapse (the states are a very fragile system);
-no one expected that Russia would be able to withstand the "economic power" of NATO, would not dive into hyperinflation, that the European economy would bleed;
-Russians have adapted to the new reality, he does not believe in the collapse of Russia;
-Russians feel strong in relation to the West;
-Russia conducts military operations saving the lives of soldiers, realizing that the game will be long, not forgetting about demographics;
-for the non-Western world, Russia is the embodiment of a hopeful moral conservatism, anti-colonial, paternalistic, conservative system, which is very attractive to many.

The previous articles I posted are credible and authenticated. One of Wagner's own commanders whom just defected to Norway confirmed. He verified the previous accounts of "cannon fodder" slaughter of Russian recruits & personally witnessed execution of their own troops. Russia is certainly reverting back to Stalin-era Soviet tactics and now we have the defections again like the old days. We have even seen Russians arriving at southern border seeking political asylum.
“The commanders took them to a shooting field and they were shot in front of everyone. Sometimes one guy was shot, sometimes they would be shot in pairs...shocked us to the core, it was so fucked-up.”
“The prisoners are used as cannon fodder, like meat...In my platoon, only three out of 30 men survived”

According to former French president François Hollande and German chancellor Angela Merkel, the Minsk peace agreements were a ruse to give Ukraine time to get militarily stronger.

Why did Ukraine want to become stronger militarily?
In 2015, Ukraine had two ways to choose:
a) Canadian way (aka implementing the Minsk Agreements): Becoming a federal state with Ukrainian and Russian languages, just like Canada did with Quebec, protecting minority rights and regional languages.
b) War way: To hell with the agreements and crush the rebel regions.
So I guess Ukraine chose the wrong option and now must face the consequences.

Its interesting that you say Russia gets to decide if Ukraine made a right or wrong decision. The wrong decision of Ukraine's internal matters means war in the Ukraine with Russia.
Why is it that way?

Another former U.S. military solidier died volunteering in Ukraine (Dnipro). He survived 5 Navy SEAL deployments in Iraq, Afganistan and Yemen...luck ran out in Eastern Front Ukraine.
"...At least 6,000 people contacted the Ukrainian embassy in Washington during the opening weeks of the war seeking information about how to volunteer on behalf of Ukraine. Half the potential (American) volunteers were quickly rejected for lacking military experience, having a criminal record, or otherwise not being fit to serve, Ukraine's military attache said last year. An unknown number of Americans have joined units of foreign fighters supporting Kyiv, including former military members. Others are volunteering with aid groups and human rights organizations."
Unlike Russia, Ukraine says no thanks to Americans with criminal records.

Until 2022, Wagner PMCs did not officially take even simply convicted people. In 2022, they began to take. Not so long ago, a group of former prisoners, after a 6-month contract, gained freedom and the removal of criminal records (as they wrote everywhere, I have no insider). What is called - redeemed by blood. The so-called - "dashing people", a very specific type of personality, which is extremely difficult to find himself in everyday life. An overabundance of vital energy, an adventurous temperament and much more. Such a person is not suitable for a military career - it simply does not suit him to live in garrison service for years. People are not the same from birth. And this type of personality is a fact. And to use it in combat is the most reasonable.
In any society there are men born for war, real warriors. And when everything is calm, they, as they used to say, "enter the slippery slope." Yes, a former prisoner can both die and be seriously injured. It is a fact. And being a criminal, can't he? And will his relatives be proud of him if he dies in a showdown or during detention? Is it better for a "dashing man" to rot in prison?
My classmate recently died there. He had been very "active and dashing" since childhood. In the "dashing 1990s" he became a member of a gang, killing rivals from other gangs. Then he was in prison and in the fall of last year he went to the PMC "Wagner" and died from a shrapnel in the head. I am sure that the state must take this factor into account and properly use such people.

Almost like a romanticizing criminals heading to war paratmar. Garrison service can be boring but is filled with training. Exercises, ethics classes, leadership training, specialized weapons training, university level classes etc etc... None of this is replaceable by a few weeks of familiarization and then thrown into battle.
What type of convictions are they excusing if you survive the Ukraine?

Allegedly Ukraine has struck Wagner HQ in Soledar. Evidence cited is dust / smoke debris witnessed over the local area (shown at 3:18 mark). Appalling casualty rates amongst these prisoner platoons. I can understand why former Wagner prisoner commander defected to Norway, his odds to stay alive were extremely poor.
Yes America has the largest prisoner population (2M +) in the world more than even China. But American military refuses to accept recruits with felony criminal records. Ukraine apparently does the same screening for their foreign recruits. 6 American volunteers KIA identified thus far, none know to have criminal records. Not sure about the other Western nations.

In August of 2004, Zappi, Homba, Bambam887, RedScorpion and MOOXE all pitched
