CC2 is available for download on a pile of websites. Its considered abandonware now because nobody supports or enforces the copywrites on the game.

Is it illegal? Well.... its like those old time laws that really dont make sense now. You can break those laws because they are not applicable anymore. I feel the same can be applied here. CC2 is like 8 years old, in another 10 years we'll still be in the same situation as now.

Jaywalking is also illegal.

Distributing CC2 in the most litteral definition is against the law. Since the copywrite holder does not enforce nor support this software anymore (hence why its called abandonware) are we ethically wrong and criminally responsible for distributing it?

Take into consideration that the game is not being sold (as new, only 2nd hand) anymore, the owner doesnt support it and the fact that distributing it will actually prolong its life with gamers.

If you really want to get technical... Modding is totally illegal. Especially since CC3/4/5 are still sold and copywrites being enforced. You cannot change for instance the copywrited file cc5.exe and then freely distribute it all over the world. So you cant in all honestly hold abandonware to the strict policy of it being totally illegal to distribute when we are breaking copywrites here on this site daily, 1000's of times and other websites to.

LOL no not war, I hope Mooxe doesn't think so either.

My point is very simple, its illegal no matter what we do. Just like Jaywalking is unitll the law is changed. Will the police come knocking on or doors for jaywalking, modding or distributing CC, I don't think so, but they are still illegal. My first post was largly because some people out thier don't see that just because a game is offered as abandonware on a bunch of sites like the underdogs doesn't make it legal.

I don't know about CC2 but if a game is labeled as abandonware(available in sites that are specialized in distributing those type of games like Abandonia for example) it's legal to download it because most of the time the company who has the right to this game is 1. closed, 2. gave their approval to distribute the game freely or 3. just doesn't care about that game anymore. So there's nothing illegal about that.

CC2 is not "abandonware". The copyright, license and code are owned by Destineer Studios which is well known in the gaming industry for defending their rights in court. CSO Simtek has a license from Destineer to re-release CC2 sometime next year.

C'est magnifique, mais ce n'est pas la guerre.

In August of 2004, Zappi, Homba, Bambam887, RedScorpion and MOOXE all pitched
in to create this Close Combat site. I would to thank all the people who have visited and
found this site to thier liking. I hope you had time to check out some of the great Close Combat
mods and our forums. I'd also like to thank all the members of our volunteer staff that have
helped over the years, and all our users that contributed to this site!
