Usually we consider a team that's lost 60% of its men a write off. So sometimes we use the 40% survivors as cannon fodder, at least many of us have because we usually never see them again. In reality its just that the game isn't setup to pay attention to those details very well as the soldier progresses through battles.

In a battle vs Nikin in Battle for Caen, Pte Wright was just a lowly member of a rifle squad (soldier), which was wiped out except him. He took the PIAT from his dead section commander and with one PIAT bomb destroyed a Marder and ATG. In total, his kills were three men, one tank and one anti tank gun during a battle in Cruelly. One section of rifleman lost from the forcepool for good.

Pte Wright is wounded, and now a member of a command squad, which needed replacements from the same battle Pte Wright lost the rest of his section in. He is listed now as a "Gunner" in the command squad, a bug perhaps? You can see him in action at 04:31 in the video below, and again during the last 30 seconds of the fight as he lobs a PIAT at the Marder.

Isn't that amazing? Maybe the command guys saw he was a good piat gunner at put him as specialist? I don't think its a bug but maybe other groups like your command squad have abilities to pick up good fighting men with medals and bravery on previous battles. I have to watch some of the last names in my battles to see if this happens. I have noticed playing W.A.R that the SS KG guys have had many medals and kills from battles in possibly different battlegroups and then put on SS for the skill they had? But that's amazing that he wasn't a member of the command team but his skills got him there. Another reason why cc games are pretty neat. I can't see this amazing stuff happen in 15 minutes so I play at 30min to an hour. It get really interesting and things start to happen like that after a long battle.

That's great, I've never noticed that soldiers from destroyed squads can be transferred to another unit in the battlegroup, although I have seen a few cases where soldiers from a squad lacking full manpower in the battlegroup will be distributed to other weakened units when removed in the troop selection screen. Perhaps this is more common than we think because we don't notice it unless some really special soldier is transferred? I mean, if a lone survivor with no kills would be used to reinforce another squad I would not see it, but if one soldier who's destroyed a tank is transferred I would notice it in the soldier screen because I know that the squad he's now in had no tank kills before.

Very awesome find mooxe, so he kept all his kills, medals and skills and was requisitioned to another team Question

I remember in CC2 when this would happen, most noticeably in arnhem and oosterbeek where you're always low on supplies, sometimes two bren gunners would merge and you would end up with an awesome team with two machine guns.

Question, does the command team has a PIAT assigned by default or I'm to believe he kept the PIAT from his previous team??

Agree, such an immersive feature that gets unnoticed. Any ideas how to implement it better? For one I think using a more extensive list of names could help or adding first names' letters to the last names so a soldier name is something like A. G. Wright. I think there is a mod that does that already for CC5.

Yeah, there is a mod for that. First initials mod (by mcconmy) Only German and American names tough, but a lot of mods are set on the Western Front so that is understandable. I suppose the easiest way to see this is to pay extra attention to squads with few survivors and squads who only lost 1-2 men and then see if they've been merged. Since there are quite a lot of unique names for the soldiers already
I don't think it is the way the names themselves are presented, but that one does not put so much effort into remembering them all. Especially in CC5, LSA, WAR and TLD where there are multiple battlegroups. In COI and CC3 it is easier to remember since you play with the same troops throughout all campaigns. Although I must agree that the first name initial is a nice touch.

I've never thought to ever follow that.
I wonder if WAR has that?

Well he was not the primary PIAT guy in his original squad, he only picked it up because everyone else died. I guess next battle we'll see haha.... I will have a good laugh if he kept the PIAT... Nikin watch out for my PIAT Command team!

ahh forget it I must have looked wrong and was confused after watching the video!

I had the idea that in the picture of the command team he was carrying a PIAT but after closer examination it seems he is only carrying a rifle.
