You missed the point. Mannafort takes money from whoever, even if that was a devil himself. And he is not alone. And foreign governments purchase such people in regular way, for years. The last time independent candidate was elected in Congress happens in 2014. The US have no democracy, have duopoly instead. And do you know, what it means? Saudi Arabia have two major oil companies. One finances GOPs, one Dems. So Arabia interests are secured independent from election outcomes. Same do Israel, China (including Taiwan), Ukraine, and yes, Russia too. Is a Canadian Uranium One Clinton's affair completely forgotten?

Yes agree that part is clear.  The part that is not clear to most Russians is that Putin government hired Americans to help prop up proxy regime in Ukraine and continues to use American puppets known loyal to him. Actually your description of Mannafort taking money from even the devil himself would be more accurate of Mannafort's boss, Trump.  My point was the Russian portrayal of current Ukraine democratic government as American puppet state is double standard lie.

Also Russian peoples are being indoctrinated with false depiction that United States and their NATO allies have some vendetta against Russia.  More lies.  NATO is very popular and expanding with even more members due to fear of Russian aggression.  Very old fears like how Russia collaborated with the Nazi's to seize the Baltic States and Eastern Poland.  NATO only wants defensive posture never to invade sovereign nations or military occupation like what Russia does.

American foreign policy is very consistent since end of WW2 and simple.  American Government always wants to promote Democratic regimes with free and fair elections.  It's not just Ukraine but worldwide policy.

My impression is that Russia from the beginning is conducting the war at half throttle instead of going full throttle.

My opinion is that currently Russia in Ukraine is like Germany in USSR in 1942-43. Russia have too large front to deal with, some advantage in tanks, artillery and aviation, and great troubles with holding seized territories.  Ukraine have some asymmetric warfare advantages, lots of cannon fodder and constant lend-lease supply flow from allies. Give up in Kherson means frontline reduce, what served to Russian interest, and from Ukraine i`m expect attempt to wider front even more, like with invasion into Belgorod or Belarus, what Russain command should anticipate and be ready to quickly repel. With no expectations (or even possibilities) of great advance till next summer, Russian command should concentrate on targeting remaining Ukraininan railroad and bridges infrastructure, and also on more recon&hunt of western supply trains, what require lot of urgent investments into space program and long-range drones  - i.e. equivalent of deploying wolfpacks into Atlantic. To reduce troubles with securing rears, Russia should immediately declare Ukraininan army saboteurs&special services as terrorists (considering that Ukraine already implicated terror tactics) and then recreate SMERSH units, that were capable to quickly reduce UPA threat in 1944-45. Next half year will depend of Russian abilities to fulfill that tasks.

NATO was expanding even when Russia was totally not a threat. NATO supplied and coordinated subversive programs in Russia itself and nearby countries from 1949 and with no stop at and after 1991. NATO never removed Russia from main threat to alliance. And we all remind, how well NATO NOT invaded Yugoslavia, Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Syria, in 'defensive posture' of course.

For US foreign policy war in Ukraine is a perfect match and clear win. Europe got a bleeding wound for decades, lost access to cheap energy, increase dependencies from energy from US, lost Russian market, about to lost much of heavy industry, spent much of arsenal and forced to great spending (lion's share of which will fall into US pockets), must to deal with millions of refugees (in addition to millions from 'Arab spring' outcomes). The continental alliance of Germany and Russia in now impossible - a geostrategy nightmare for US and UK, and Europe will greatly descent in both economical and political value in the world, loosing chances to become a third world power. But, this great victory for US have potential of source lead to great failure. The decline of Europe means decline of US allies, and multiplied 'enemies of free world' now control a lot of resources and population, and any country will rebalance their relations with US and will tend more to local alliances to hold their independence.

About Democracy - modern Democracy is when at power are people claimed himself as democrats. Even if they for a long time don't even hesitate about their nations interests and literally hang their opponents in streets openly.

We know why Russia is no longer in Kherson.

Do we know why Russia is in Ukraine at all after 10 months?

I agree with your opinion, but Russia has tactical nuclear weapons and Germany did not. Though I guess Russia doesn't use them for fear of retaliation, just like Germany didn't use gas.

Russia is going to lose a conventional war if western supplies are not cut off.

At home where Russians belong attending to their own interests.

Maybe even trying to help their own people instead of make them suffer & make an already bad global inflation crisis even worse.

I understand Russian state TV is most unhappy about situation in Ukraine.  Nuking them or Chemical weapons attack will make the rest of world dislike Russia substantially more.

Former Russian Ambassador Michael McFaul watches a lot of Russian State TV and understands Russian language & culture.  He claims the Russian State television announcers are going off-script not following the usual propaganda talking points.  And have been very depressed in their depiction of war.  Russia has lost every major battle thus far with the exception of Mariupol siege and Donbas battles of the summer.  Although Russia saved estimated 20k troops whom were about to get encircled on left bank of Dnipro river.  Russians took heavy casualties as they attempting to flee across the Dnipro but troops were able to save themselves to fight for another day.

McFaul think since this time, Russian State television did not attempt lie or cover up of the loss of Kherson, some policy changes might be at work.  Such as preparations for peace negotiations or trying to be honest for once with the Russian people that this will hard war that will take much longer and more sacrifices from Russian peoples.

@JFFulcrum - "modern Democracy is when at power are people claimed himself as democrats. Even if they for a long time don't even hesitate about their nations interests and literally hang their opponents in streets openly".  Please enlighten me which Western modern Democratic nation hangs political opponents on the streets?  The only nations that do that are Autocratic nations pretending to be legit.Like how East Germany called themselves "Democratic" republic and China calls itself Peoples Republic.  Nazi Germany and Benito Mussolini also had elections that didn't make them Democracies.

Like was with castration video, it is likely a hoax for a warning. More interested part is https://edition.cnn.com/2022/11/14/africa/zambian-prisoner-killed-ukraine-intl/index.html  . Seems like both sides decided, that there is no trash, just soldiers: https://www.theglobeandmail.com/world/article-russia-ukraine-war-foreign-legion/

Under the guise of a war with Russia, Ukraine is waging a hybrid war against NATO!
- March 2 - Ukrainian air defense system S-300 destroyed a Romanian MiG-21 fighter.
- March 2 - Ukrainian air defense shot down a Romanian military transport helicopter Mi-8, which flew out to look for a downed Ukrainian MiG-21 fighter.
- March 3 - Estonian bulk carrier Helt was blown up at a Ukrainian sea mine off the coast of Odessa.
- March 10 - Ukrainian UAV Tu-141 "Strizh" attacked Zagreb.
- September 9 -  Romanian minesweeper was blown up at a Ukrainian sea mine near Constanta.
- November 9 - A Turkish boat blew up at a Ukrainian sea mine in Ireland.
- November 15 - The Ukrainian S-300 air defense system attacked Poland, destroying citizens of two Polish lands and a tractor trailer.

Ten Russian POWs shot in the head lying face down on the ground. Ukrainians gouged out the eyes of at least one of the soldiers.

Maybe not the best way to win hearts and minds in the West.

Not anymore, Russia is still on its territory (although some part of Russia are currently temporarily occupied by Ukraine) https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Annexation_of_Southern_and_Eastern_Ukraine.svg
