CAN YOU SAY "WHAT THE FUCK"?
Im watching a show on military channel called "the fight for bahgdad" when out of nowhere the "inbed" reporter starts filming road clearing techniques for IED`s,shows convoy formations, tachtical positioning for ambush encounters, the fact that the first thing thats done when enemy is encountered is send for the air calvary(guess whos waiting)!
I mean FFS,doesnt the military or DOD clear these programs before it broadcasted all over the world(including that fucked up media station over there that loves to air excecutions of hosties)
Maybe its just me but im shaking my head on this one.

it's just one of those things that just slip on by and hardly is noticed. it will probably be fixed the next time it's aired though.

What would H Jones do?

Are there tactics classified? I would say no. Therefore it is ok to air them.

Unfortunately this is an aspect of modern warfare that today's military have to contend with, that is having an independent media cover their tactics and question their conduct. But this is what warfare is all about, one side acts then the other side reacts and then the tactics change again to prevent the same reaction. I don't think that it matters that much that the in-bed reporter was filming what the troops were doing, with the proliferation of digicams these days, there would most likely be elements of the opposition filming the troops as well to evaluate their tactics. Don't forget that the media is two-way, it might endanger the soldier in the field by showing tactics, but the media can also highlight tactical blunders that are constantly repeated putting political pressure on those in command to be more considerate of those serving in the field (There are many examples of this in modern history, but look at the Dardenelles campaign in WW1 and the efforts by war correspondents Charles Bean and Keith Murdoch to bring that pointless slaughter to an end).

Hello

I have some experience in the EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) field where IEDD (Improvised Explosive Device Disposal) is one field. Generally all tactical procedures, such as positioning and movement, are classified. This is specially important when it comes to IEDs. This is to provide security to the EOD personal. When I had my IEDD training we got some good info on the importance of not letting the enemy know your tactical deployment pattern by british EOD operators. In their "war" against the IRA the IRA started to monitor british EOD units tactics. They could then predict the deployment (where the vehicle will be parked, what way the EOD operator will advance towards the IED etc) and place the real bomb in an nearby garbagecan, thus blowing the whole EOD unit to pieces on arrival.

I haven't seen the film as described, but if I was in Iraq I would not like the fact that media aired my units tactics. You don't have to make it that easy to the other side to study your tactics... Just a thought...
