CC5: Battle of Surabaya progress report (December 2006 - March 2007):
1. New units artwork. British units almost done, WIP for the Indonesian units. We had no choice but to create custom artwork for the Indonesian teams because of lack of photos available. Since the Indonesian teams are represented using artwork, the British teams will also be represented using custom artwork.
Thanks to Sapa’s Battle of Berlin unit artwork for the inspiration!
[ScrnGadg.gdg and GameGadg.gdg].
2. New color scheme for various game screens.
[CCImages.pix, GameGadg.gdg and ScrnGadg.gdg].
3. New main screen, status screens, side select artwork (WIP).
[GameGadg.gdg and ScrnGadg.gdg].
4. New Teams, Force Pools and Battlegroups.
Thanks to all the modders of GJS, El Alamein, Okinawa, Khalkin-Gol, Stalingrad and Stalingrad Der Kessel for the base data.
Thanks to members of the Military sub-forum at Kaskus.us for the help on Indonesian units research, also for the enthusiasm and support. Also to members of the Kaskus Surabaya Regional sub-forum.
Thank you to Batara R. Hutagalung for his powerful insights on the Battle of Surabaya 1945 and the base data for the British and Indonesian OoB. Thank you so much for the electronic copy of your book.
Thank you to Pat Brennan from TOandEs@ yahoogroups.com for the base British OoB data.
Thanks to all at CCS and CSO for helping out!
[Vehicles.adb, Soldiers.adb, Alsteams.adb, GEteams.adb, BGroups.adb and FPools.adb].

We will post screenshots with our next progress report, hopefully sometime next month. For now, some gameplay (pre-beta version) screenshots of a bloody engagement between Indian troops with Dutch NICA KNIL squads (plus tank support) and Indonesian Police at the Toenjoengan district, downtown Surabaya (tested using Berlin maps, courtesy of Southern Land and Sapa).

Edit: sorry, the free hosting removed the screenshots...check out the CCS Combat Camera instead.

Still lots of work in progress. We're shooting for end of 2007...but no promises.
Releasing the mod in November for the battle's anniversary would be awesome...but again no promises Smile

Thanks, Mats! Glad you like them...inspired by your BoB of course Wink

Here's a crosspost from a new thread at The Mess:

I wanted to share the diorama photos on CCS (and CSO)...also to give you guys an in your face depiction of the Battle of Surabaya 1945 (BoS45). Since we started working on CC5: BoS45 late last year we've gotten in touch with a lot of unique Indonesian Military/History Communities that we never knew existed...one of them is the modellers/diorama guys. We've even hooked up with an Indonesian WW2 reenactment group from Surabaya...they promptly contacted us when they heard that we're 'porting' BoS45 to a PC game (most of them have never even heard of CC). These reenactor guys will provide us with rare 1940s photos and maps of Surabaya, 1945 Indonesian Army reenactment photos and they will also record the Indonesian voices to replace the beta version we're currently using for playtesting.

BoS45 even attracted the attention of Surabaya's major newspaper...we were interviewed and featured on Jawa Pos (and sister newspaper Indo Pos) a few weeks ago. Here's the online version of the BoS45 feature (in Indonesian of course):
http://www.jawapos.co.id/index.php?act=detail_c&id=283519

Umm...back to the diorama...the scene depicts Indonesian regular army (TKR) forces and militias supported by Marmon Herrington ACs clashing with troops of the 5th Indian Division (noticably Indian troops of the Punjab Regiment) supported by Stuarts and Dingos (or maybe Staghounds?) ACs.

I've posted some new screenshots of BoS45 (mainly new game interface screens) at the Combat Camera. I will be uploading some more stuff in the coming weeks...mostly British BGs 'cause Indonesian BG artwork are still works in progress.
We took a 2 month break from BoS45 due to work and other commitments...but work on the mod has now partially resumed.
The Stratmap is done (beta artwork), so we'll be moving on to custom maps soon...arrghh!

BTW, anyone know what to edit so the Mainscreen graphics will show version: 5.01? I've checked the exe and the CCresourceDLL.dll...both show ver 5.01...but the Mainscreen keeps loading up with ver 5.0 Confused

Hey Squadleader..

I seen your stratmap on the Combat Camera. I noticed some maps are not connected. IMO it would be best to connect all maps where ever possible. Where there can be no connection something on the map like a mountain or river should be present to show the route is blocked. Otherwise, conducting strat is hell. GJS is a good example, it has a river along the bottom and you cant cross untill a map has a bridge, like in Pegasus or Caen.

BTW... Would you like a BoS forum started?

Hey Mooxe...
Thanks for the input.

The beta stratmap was mainly done by my buddy Eaglereach (BoS45 team member, main data and historical research guy and passive CCS member, the other team member is Markencup who will work on the maps with me). The missing connections are to simulate the historical terrain of the city. There's a big river running all the way through Surabaya (around the middle section of the map, running North to South) so the maps here are only connected if there are major bridges available. As for the outer maps - the outskirts of the city - some of them do not have connections to simulate impassable marsh areas, rice paddies and fish farms. Also some of the inner city maps have no connections because there are Kampoengs (crowded residential areas packed with small houses and very narrow streets...effectively blocking military movement) between them.
The current artwork (based on a period map of Surabaya) needs some touch ups to show these blocked routes more clearly (and the river is also hard to see).

We're still troubleshooting the problem of test GCs crashing on us...so we haven't really fine-tuned the connections for gameplay issues.

As for a BoS45 forum...sure thing...we'd be honored! Smile

In August of 2004, Zappi, Homba, Bambam887, RedScorpion and MOOXE all pitched
in to create this Close Combat site. I would to thank all the people who have visited and
found this site to thier liking. I hope you had time to check out some of the great Close Combat
mods and our forums. I'd also like to thank all the members of our volunteer staff that have
helped over the years, and all our users that contributed to this site!
