20 min, no morale, no initiative, vl rule and rebuild if crashes.

June 7th, 1st turn.

Hillman,

Canadian 8th/3rd ID BG combined BG attacked Hillman battery that is defended by II./736.716.ID

Units received their orders either to move or to support.
But things went the worst way possible. It appeared that area was zeroed by german ATGs and from the beginning of the battle our unit started to sustain casualties.
First Stuart was blown apart by 88mm shell shot from PaK 43/41 and 6-pdr gun coveing it was disabled.


Then Crab was hit by Pak40 several times and exploded, another Sherman III was hit by pak40 and got immobilized but fortunately it moved several metres by enertion and enemy gun lost LOS.


The only good thing in those moment was that infantry have spotted german 88 and NAVAL fire was called. Pak43/41 got whacked .


Polemarchos tried to attack with inf from the south and east(along the hedges) but was repulsed although it costed 1 more Sherman III.


Several teams were send to outflank the german bunker but were ambushed and annihilated.


In the end of the battle rifle section under heavy smoke screen managed to capture bunker.


That's how strategical situation looked like when the AAR has started:
Allies break inland leaving points of resistance behind their line to be cleared by newly arriving BGs.


Periers Ridge,

British 9th/3rd ID attacked I./736./716.ID.

As another british BG fought same map last turn (it proceeded further inland via captured exit VL) germans didn't have control on whole map.
Plan was to make strong attack toward the centre of the town, secondary attack toward the Chateau Monte and have several units to take all the VLs in the east and north.

Recce Group managed to get inside the tower unseen and could spot all the german teams that were coming in the town.
With the help of AVRE and mortar support infantry managed to clear the houses along the road w/o taking hvy casualties.


While the attack on Chateau was total failure - infantry was intercepted with mortar barrage, got suppressed and annihilated.


Infantry moved rapidly cleaning house by house until there was an open field before them plus Pak35/36 was spotted in the hedge.
Arty barrage was called, infantry and mortars started to supress ATG while AVRE moves fast toward the gun to get closer and destroy the Pak. But unfortunately there was another ATG in same hedge - Pak40.
That was v nasty surprise, AVRE got immobilized with 1st hit and destroyed with 2 more shots.


DD Sherman V has tried to KO pak40 from the distance of more than 400m but missed 2 shots, ATG didn't miss killing Sherman with 1st hit.

Results of the battle:


Buron,

British 8th/3rd ID left pocket of resistance in the Periers Ridge and proceeded to Buron where it met II./22./21.PzD.

As our unit didn't get intel report on enemy defence and it was know that german tanx were present in the area it was decided to create battlegroup with 7 tanx (1 VC, 1 Centaur CS, 3 DD Sherman V and 2 Crabs) with support of 6-pdr and Section of 3-inch mortars. The plan was genious in it's simplicity - to engage in firefite vs german tanx and ATGs if germans had time to establish defence or to meet panzers in defence and then counterattack.
But german unit in Periers Ridge didn't allow supply trucks to come to in time so all the tanx besides Centaur couldn't move and were used as armored fire points while Centaur moved to support infantry.
Luckily it was meeting engagement, not much action took place. Forward units exchanged with gun fire and it was decided to truce. Although v important conslusion was made - Panzergrenadiere of 21.Pz appeared to be much more capable enemy than Grenadiere of 716.ID


Result of the battle:


Colombelles,

6th AL BDE BG of 6th ABD attacked Collombeles steel works to make bridgehead but II./125./21.PzD that were there first forced airlanders to defend their entrance area. 1st battle showed that AL infantry is trained good and could withstand attacks from different directions inflicting hvy casualties on enemy. Germans lost 1 Armored HT and 2 Marders I during first battle while AL BG lost Tetrarch I.

This battle ALs prepared to defence area from the 2 most possible approaches - south-west and workhouses.
Germans commited recoinassance in force with their armored HTs but Sniper and BREN Group disabled vehicles. 2men of BREN group was killed during this due to 2cm AA gun fire.
After annihilating the BREN germans decided to redeploy HMG to same barn but they were met with paccurate sniper fire (killed 3 of 4men) and 2-inch light mortar that killed last HMG number.
RAF strike was called upon position of 2cm AA in the house but wasn;t successful.

June 7th, 1st turn(continuation).

strategical situation.


Bouis de Bovent,

German I./22./21.PzD attacked BG of 6thPara/6th ABD in Bouis de Bovent.

Paras lacked hvy weapons such as ATGs that's why they had to rely on their training PIATs and grenades to stop tanx.
Paras established defencive line ans started to wait. When first PzIV closed to Ferme Renouf the first PIAT group entered battle. 1st rocket scored turret hit and PzIV exploded destroying HT next to it. Germans started to fire in searching mode with guns and MGs but didn't even get close in hitting PIAT.
Second rocket hit turret of PzIIIL and it also exploded. Germans realised that they have to attack with infantry toward the possible position of PIAT. 2nd HT has tried to move further to the north but 3rd rocket from PIAT destroyed it. After then Rifle Section and PIAT annhilated german infantry that was trying to clear the houses.


In the center BREN Group has spotted german scout team and opened fire from the 2nd floor killing all 5 of them. After that Polemarchos has tried to force recon crossroad with HT but our PIAT Group was awaited for it and destoryed HT with 2 shells. German Hvy AC has moved on position and opened fire at PIAT killing 1 Group memeber.


It looked like germans understimated para by all positions and move out PzIVH inside the courtyard that was immediatly destroyed by Gammon Bombs from the 2nd floor.


Another PzIVH moved alnog the road but was stopped by Recce Section that fired PIAT, unfortunately panzer has spotted paras and they had to withdraw.


SdKfz 231 tried to break to Merville VL but was destroyed by PIAT.


Command HT was spotted and airstrike was called upon it. 12.7mm HMGs could only damage HT.


Paras counterattacked in the centre meeting light resistance. Although Command Group was ambushed by HMG and got annihilated.


Damaged command HT tried to move toward to Collombeles VL but was attacked by Rifle Section with grenades and Gammon Bombs and initially destroyed.

7th June, 2nd turn.

Strategical situation on the eve of 2nd turn


Creully,

BG of 251st/50thID continued to clear the town of Creully from the remains of II./915./352.ID.

Germans have tried to counterattack, create fire superiority and restore positions they had lost last battle. But we were rdy for that. With support of Shermans infantry rejected german attacks...


...and counter-attacked


Germans comitted the attack toward to Thaon VL but were repulsed.


During clearing the hedges german Mortar Section was spotted and annihilated.
