I was helping a newbie get set up today and encountered some interesting problems trying to trouble shoot with him. Using remote assistance I set up his router with all the required ports and port forward rules. There was no active firewalls that I could identify. In the end, frustrated by things, I DMZ'd his computer to check the results. When on DMZ we still couldn't connect (proving it's not a port forwarding issue??) but interesting via TCP I could see his room! Also CC5 was showing his WAN IP not his LAN IP when he was hosting. When I tried to join his TCP game my side simply stalled for a while then came back to normal.

I'm baffled.

His set up is:

Cable Modem > Router > 3 PCs

I've tried that before, has it successfully worked for you? I couldn't get it going.

Hey mikwarleo!

'Jimredhand' here, I appreciate all the help you tried to give me. I installed hamachi, if you want to give it a test with me, im all up for it. On that note, any other hamachi users out there playing cc5?

hrmm...well have you d/l'd it yet? If not, just go to www.hamachi.cc, d/l, install and follow the quick walkthrough it provides. I myself have not been able to play anyone yet, as no one is on the virtual network when i come on (prob my work hours). So i cant even verify if i can play with someone successfully yet. For mik and all who are interested i will be on tonight at around 11:30ish PM Pacific time (off work) and i can play late into tonight as i have tomorrow off!

Hi Sick.... it's pretty simple. It really is just install and follow the simple instructions. You create a network (or log onto one that your friend has made) and then away you go. I'd like to test it with someone if you're able.

thats the correct procedure ask mik said:

both install..

one creates network and sents name of network and password to opponent.

he joins network and then both launch game one hosts the other joins (with th IP he sees in hamachi)

ready to play.

p.s. you ahev never to setup hamachi again - it remembers opponents IPs, so next time starting hamachi is enough...

in light of backdoor function i would recommend to stick to private networks fro each of your opponents..

however the idea of a kinda internal Hamachi area for trusted CSO and CCS member sound like a good idea.

I dont know if it has an effect on network stability with multiple gamers, but lets try and see

yes in theory this all works perfectly by passing all potential port forwarding issues but here is the bizarre part:

I tried it with my newbie friend mentioned at the start and we experienced exactly the same issues connecting through himachi. We made a virtual LAN using himachi. Then attempted TCP using our himachi IPs. He couldn't see my room at all when I hosted. When he hosted I could see the room but when I tried to join cc5 just froze. Exactly the same as previous attempts through TCP.

Any ideas welcome... I'm baffled.

Are either port forwarding or disabled firewalls necessary when using Hamachi to connect?

Thanks

Hi all

After spending loads of time and effort a few months back trying to get playing online (and failing) I gave up. Kept checking these forums to see if anything cropped up to help. Must have missed this post though. Should give it a try.
