PostPosted: Sat Feb 16, 2008 10:13 pm Post subject: making a custom scenario using plain vanilla scenario editor Reply with quote

Hello I`ve started playing all of the close combat series again Smile and i`ve installed and played the fantastic mods for fav game cc5 like stalingrad and Battle for berlin etc.

Just like to know if there is a good guide on here to making custom scenarios a sort of step by step guide, not making actual terrain maps but putting in units to fight each other like infantry v infantry etc.

Hope this makes sense as the cc5 manual isnt much good and doesnt explain things for a newb custom scenario maker.

Any hints or tips appreciated

Best regards Stormo

I have actually made my fair share of custom scenarios but note that they are always for h2h purposes. Typically its very helpful to have a working knowledge of the units available and their strengths and weaknesses. Then as you are matching up BG's on the maps you choose, check out the Force Pools to see what units are available. Typically I'll play a few battles vs the AI to get a feel for the basic match up even though the AI is worthless as an opponent. I'll then test it out with a friend telling them in advance if its a new creation and asking for suggestions. Generally you want to match up with someone of comparable skills for testing purposes.

But the short answer is NO, there is no guide to making custom scenarios. You kind of have to work through it and get a feel for the balance. There are some available on the custom scenarios section here in CCS and I know that Pzt is planning on creating a new thread where we will be posting some of the scenarios used in past wars. We have some really good ones that have played out to a very close result.

I am currently developing one for h2h play in Karelia2.

Good luck

Have you tried the Scenario Editor?
It's pretty basic actually.
- Drag and drop BG Icons from both sides to your chosen map.
- Click repeatedly on the map to set the supply and control variables.
- Set the level of Artillery, Naval and Air support for both sides.
- Save the scenario/battle.

Hello again ,thanks for the replies to my question ,i`ve had a play with the inbuilt scenario editor got an "invalid battle data"?? error message when i tried to save it .

I put some units in to start with both allied and axis also the supply chains but still got the above error message just like a few pointers to find out whats wrong/mistake i`ve made.
