hollywood does not have to make do with tanks that sort of look right(tiger tanks anyways)any more because this german company is going to start producing full replicas of the tiger...
It appears to be only a pipe dream so far for that company. CAD designs only. They probably will need some pre-orders to capitalize any actual manufacturing. But 50 tonnes? The real thing weighed 57 tonnes.
Why put that much metal into a replica? They should be able to do it for well under 5 tonnes.
They should be preserved on site for their historic value, not stolen and sold off for profit (which has happened recently) by war memorabilia traders.
The military channel did an episode on tank restorers, unfortunately only the mega rich are able to make these old battle field relics operational again. the cost is in the millions to make it authentic. One person has 3 full time employees that only restore wwII tanks, but they do everything exactly to spec.
what's worse than this example is that here in the US, Toll Brothers(they build country clubs) recently bought some land to make their next golf course and country club on a old sanitorium(sorry forgot where) but as they were tearing down the old buildings and clesring out the underground facilities they came across some American made half tracks and Jeeps, but instead of selling to a collector they disposed of them because they didn't want to be burdened with them. just threw away what was probably pristine wwII era vehicles!
Back in 2000 a T34 was pulled out of a swamp in Estonia. It was captured and used by the Germans but when they retreated from the area they dumped the T34 into a lake in the swamp (maybe out of gas?) Anyway, the swamp preserved the tank so it was in mint condition when they pulled it out except for all the mud and water. The article even says after a small repair they were able to start the diesel engine.

Actually I saw on current TV that in Omaha, Nebraska there is this guy that had bought a working T-34, and uses it as an amusement, allowing people to ride in the gunners position, fire machine guns, or shoot the cannon. In August of 2004, Zappi, Homba, Bambam887, RedScorpion and MOOXE all pitched
in to create this Close Combat site. I would to thank all the people who have visited
and found this site to thier liking. I hope you had time to check out some
of the great Close Combat mods and our forums. I'd also like to thank
all the members of our volunteer staff that have helped over
the years, and all our users that contributed to this site!
