No, not at all.

I'm asking what are you worth , to your boss, to be paid?

It's ok, you don't have to answer.

Pay rates, the world over are a complicated issue that can't really be dealt with here.

The pay your earn has no bearing on your intrinsic "worth"...

I earn $65.00 an hour because that is what I consider I am worth for my set of skills and the standard of living I wish to enjoy while living in an industrialised country in the 21st century.

Again, it is nothing to do with intrinsic "worth" but all to do with economics.

And what does your crystal ball say?

Will Hilary win the election?

Will the ice caps melt?

Will the price ever drop? .... who knows?

I might add that I'd recommend the boxed version as it comes with a very nice manual, well worth the few extra dollars.

Which is irrelevant, as not every country has the same level of incomes. Which is why games are usually sold through local distributors.

It's a new age of digital downloads fellas.

It's not like old stock has to be cleared out.... the game is worth $100 anyway.

That is total BS. After a decade of selling a product, one can usually pick up said product for a fraction of the original price. Money has been made, r&d and development costs have been paid and a profit has been made. The rest is all bonus.
It is absolutely unreasonable to ask almost 2 times the price (of a current similar product) for an "updated" (whatever that means, who knows?) 10-year old product.

Close Combat III: The Russian Front was released December 31, 1998.

Close Combat: Cross of Iron was released February 12, 2007.

I can buy new game releases for the same price. They have the latest in 3D graphics, top rate sound and great story line. Multiplayer has hundreds of players and are around 24 hours, 7 days a week.

The price is not justified so I'll continue to wait for the price to fall; however long that may be...

I think CC3 is the best game of the Close Combat series, I have thought about buying COI but why Question It isn't cheap and doesn't add much over CC3. I wish they would have increase the number of units from 15 to 20 or more Idea Then I think I would buy it just for that. The new maps sound cool but still not worth the price. I will keep an eye on the price and when it gets to a level that I feel is worth it then yes I will buy COI. Besides with the cost of living going up I just don't have extra money to blow on a game with little improvements over CC3 Crying or Very sad

Yeah...great game...but it's just basically tired old CC3.
Still worth $100 to you? Wink

As long as the price tag is kept that high...more people will give in and just leech the thing from Torrent etc...and more people will host the CoI files on peer-to-peer networks Wink

COI features circa 2007 in comparison to CC3:RF circa 1998:

1) GC - no chnges. Same linear campaign of same length.
2) AI - no chnges. Same useless AI as it was in 1998.
3) Graphics - some graphical adjustements that could be seen in various free mods in 1999 - 2007.
4) Sounds - new sounds, most of which could be heard in various free mods in 1999-2007.
5) Vehicle pathing - hmm, hard to say, CC3:RF had the best pathing of all CC-series. No major chnges r seen in COI.
6) Force Pool - same 15 units.
7) Maps - new maps were added most of which could be seen in various free mods in 1999-2007.
Cool Conformity of history - lost of chnges were made to make COI be more arcade and less historical in comparison to CC3.
9) Compatibility with CC3:RF - unavailable so u will find just empty MP rooms.
10) Customer support - is there any?

So we can clearly c that COI is nothing more than compilation from various mods that were made for CC in 1999-2007 by inthusiasts who wanted to make game better and which available for free.

Quote:
IMHO the best game ever produced.

and when we c such statement it's clear that the man who speaks on behalf of developers crew (who earns 65$/hour for his work Smile) has just stopped his development 10 years ago, as this statement would be valid back in 1998 for Atomic's CC3:RF. In other word he is outdated.

Now think, is such crew of developers who has such representative able to produce something new or revolutionary in CC world?

Anyway it's everyones personal choice to get such product or not.

Your wrong there Dima, Screcken does the consumer “support” for Matrix/Strategy 3 on COI and CCMT. Though you probly mistook it for consumer expression control rather than support…

1. New additional GC Fuger's Ostliche Wut '43 ~ '44
1943
Smolensk Sector Sept. 1943

2.Enhanced AI... generally more aggressive

3.Graphics - some new vehicles + New maps

4. Didn't know there was new sounds - just lost the barking dog.

5.Pathing - minor pathing improvements

6.15 units - still too many (I like the small engagements)

7. 29 (?) never before released new maps

8. ?? Lost me there

9. Exe enhancements (win XP compatibility requirements lost the compatibility with the old CC3.exe)

10. Extensive and personalised on-going customer support

CC3:RF was dead... it was not for sale and H2H games were impossible to find, if you could get it to run on your modern PC.

Cross of Iron is a re-release of an old and technically out dated game.

The re-release brought it up to spec. technically and added a lot of extra value (mod support, on-line campaign, Tech support, additional maps operations and Campaign)

Also the latest mods have been made for CoI not RF. (WFv10, Grossdeutschland2)

Over a dozen mods are compatible with CoI and more are being converted.

Nice job all round for the CoI Team.

As for the price , I don't care what price it's sold for.

As long as the people that sell it can make a living from their hard work then all is right with the world.

I'd just like to add that Cross of Iron played with the Der Ost Front mod is really fun. First time I've been out flanked by the AI.

Congrats to Armeegruppesud (AGS)

Umm...the CC Starter Utility was available...specially made for CSO but was strangely never made available as a download at CSO...not many people knew about the utility and not many people used the thing...hence the need for the new 'enhanced' exe? Wink Very Happy

Yes, someone who shall remain un-named neglected the DL's miserably. (but you could download the Gilligans Island mod and all it's map packs)

Unfortunately the CCStarter utility doesnt address many problems associated with modern PC's the improvements in CoI deals with these.

It's now available for DL at CSO

The Win98 compatibility and DirectDraw issue was fixed in the new exe...the CC Starter Util can do the same thing for the original CC3.exe.
As for the fast scrolling problem...still far from perfect when you're installing CoI on a gaming class PC (with high-end gaming graphics adapter)...on my system the scrolling on CoI is still pretty wobbly with a lot of screen tearing effects...using the arrow keys to scroll is much smoother...and I'm only using a low-to-mid-end rig: AMDX2 4000+ and Nvidia 8600GT graphics.

Why no answer? Something wrong schrecken?

Looking at the credits for COI, shows the original Atomic team for CC3 had at least six programmers, two if which were dedicated to the AI. Looking at the Simtek/Matrix/Destineer credits shows, not one person credited as a "programmer". I do think I remember Sulla commenting over at CSO that their was one programmer who had been hired to work on the code.

Sort of sad, how can you develop modern software of any kind with one or less programmers.
