|
|
Okay...I've found a way to configure the data (and graphics) so that WAR's Waffen-SS crews are not displayed in the game using Heer ranks (because they're coded as generic German Tank crew). Simply changing their style setting to SS will fix the ranks in the interface, but panzer crews end up wearing infantry uniforms in the game (battle/tactical map).
Shrecken's suggestion to create a new Nationality for Waffen-SS didn't work...adding a nation in nations.txt game me an "invalid number of nations error"
Anyways...after some trial and error...I've stumbled on a quick fix. No need to add a new nation...just a few changes in the axsteams.txt and a minor edit of the gadget files (adding corresponding rank gadgets in the correct empty slots) will do the trick.
Waffen-SS tank crews will show SS ranks on the interface and tactical map status bar...and they're also wearing the correct black panzer uniforms (not Waffen-SS infantry uniforms).
I've also worked out a fix so that Waffen-SS Assault Gun crews also wear SS ranks...and also the correct uniform (gray-green, not panzer black).
Also fixed uniforms for Heer Assault Gun crews...gray-green instead of black.
I had to use generic Heer feldgrau though, since tools for soldier color editing is still in the pipeline.

Waffen-SS panzer crews can be seen wearing panzer black uniforms when bailing out.
SS ranks also displayed correctly on the status bar.
Note: the map is coded as clear, for snow maps panzer crews wear snow camos. |

Still testing the fix for bugs, Shreckie...
Could still be wrong with the slot guessing...Waffen-SS Assault Gun crews still scramble out wearing snow camo even on clear maps...dunno how to fix that yet...but still better than these guys wearing panzer black and Heer ranks
Besides I can't just post the modified axsteams.txt...this unofficial fix also mods the gadget files slightly.
While working on the data files...I might as well fix (unofficially) the US AB uniforms and Team Graphics...make them more historically correct (see my other post).
BTW, you guys may need to explain about how to add up to 8 Nations to WAR...the slots and settings are all in place (thanks!)...but no clear how-to guide.
The old Nations system although very limited was much easier to implement.

Nations.txt is easy to edit.
Original data:
2
0 US
1 GE
Change it to;
3
0 US
1 GE
1 GE
I haven't tested with the same two letters (GE) but when I used RU it worked fine. If GE twice causes a problem you could use SS but then you would need to create copies of the GE files so that the SS do not speak English.

Hmm...GE twice? I didn't think of that
I tried using GM (new abbrev)...and the game crashed.
Will have to try using this 'official' method...mine was based on how the Style/Soldier Color slots worked in the old versions of CC4-CC5.
BTW, by adding a new Nation...wouldn't you then have to edit the rest of the data files (Fpools, BG, Vehicles)...not just ??teams.txt to accomodate the new Nation?

In Uniforms.txt you will still need to add a 3rd nation, which will be number 2 (0=US, 1=GE and 2=GE (new). Then you can use the new nation and uniforms as required in the team files....

Okay...added a new nation as (second) GE. Seems to work okay and the slot placements (for rank gadgets and uniforms) are more accurate than my guesswork method
I don't know why adding a 3rd Nation (as GM) crashed the game last night...I even added the voice files and Names files accordingly.
Thanks a lot for the tips, Tejszd!
Waffen-SS Assault Gun crew uniforms fixed!
Shrecken, since this turned out to be such a simple update/fix...you should include this in WAR's next patch.

Arrggh!!! Using twin GE Nation setting works great for accurate slot placements (for rank gadgets and uniforms)...but the "new" GE defaults to speaking American, they won't speak German...so my SS panzer crews now all speak fluent American...grrrr. Making a twin German Nation using another abbreviation should work...but then you would have to make corresponding nation files (too much hassle and makes the game installation larger).
I guess I'll stick to my unorthodox method...the only problem is that minor bug with Waffen-SS Assault Gun crew uniforms.

They speak the "defaultVox.sfx"
just "clone" the nation files vox files etc. and rename.

That's what I thought too...and did that...but apparently defaultVox.sfx isn't used
From nations.txt:
# \LocalFx\??Vox.sfx (Native language voice files)
# \LocalFx\E??Vox.sfx (English w/accent voice files)
#
# If the specified voice sound file is not found the game will default to using USVox.sfx.

Change the 2nd "GE" (3rd nation) to "SS" and then create the other nations files;
- copy GEVox.sfx to SSVox.sfx
- copy EGEVox.sfx to ESSVox.sfx
- copy GENames.txt to SSNames.txt

Tejszd,
That should work...and that's doing it by the book...but makes the WAR installation a bit fatter (by adding extra Vox files) just to get the SS ranks to work correctly.
I'll post my unorthodox fix after I've tested the settings a bit more...I would never have stumbled on this 'backdoor' if nations.txt editing didn't give me an error last night
