|
|
hi there,
got a problem...When I want to Host or Join a game using UDP or TCP it seems it wont work.
When I host a game I see my IP address is too long, in fact there are 2 IP addresses separated by a ";".
But the box,in which you have to state the IP address, when joining wont take addresses that long.
I checked the control panel and it indeed has two addresses, one for the 'lan or highspeed internet' and one for its 'Virtual Private Network'.
They are the two IP addresses stated in CC5.
any ideas?
Cheers! |

I run:
Close Combat 5, invasion Normandie ,WinXP, Raedon, the MB GIGz must all be enough to run a 5 year old game.

Sounds like you have a firewall. What you have to do is in IE, go to http://192.168.1.1 and login to your router. Find portforwarding and forward ports 2300-2400 for UDP and TCP. Also forward 47624 for tcp and udp.
Try this link for more indepth explanation by me.

is your firewall software based or hardware based? Sounds like its software... I do not know how to open ports with Norton... Your best bet is to ask in thier support forums or call. |

Your firewall has your external ip address, the one people see you as on the net. Forwarding means norton will forward data from that IP to your internal IP which is something like 192.168.1.2 .......
To make a long story short...Your telling the firewall its ok to send any data on ports 2300-2400 and 47624 to your computer. |

I've had success with TCP/IP using the second IP (the one after the ; semi-colon)
Try ignoring the first IP (your internal IP) and giving your opponent the second IP.
Just as a matter of interest
I have 4 pC's networked at home and their internal IP range is from 10.1.1.4==> 10.1.1.7
I've found this little program useful ShowIP to find my external http://www.webattack.com/dlnow/rdir.dll?id=105152
from the Bitsoft site http://www.bitsoft.se/download.htm[/b] |

|
|
Ok, I got a somewhat different problem. Since I made a firmware update of my router I am unable to open port ranges like 2300-2400. Called in tech support , got a new route but alas again with that bloody buggy firmware again. Old firmware is nowhere to be got. ´So I decided to make my labtop a DMZ, in other words disconnect it from the hardware firewall. Now I am able to join games via gamespy just fine. But not host them. Why is that ? shouldnt the DMZ put away with any port problems ? I also gave allowance to cc5 in the Windows (sp2) firewall. Also tried hosting with deactivated Windows firewall. still people get only as far as a blackscreen when I host.
any help ?`
Cheers. |

Upgrading your firmware on your router is always a bit of a risk. I did it a few months ago and suddently I couldnt send email attachments out. Couldnt fix it so I bought a new router for $50. Turned out to be a better ruoter also.
You have a few options left...
1. Disconnect the router from your system and use windows firewall as your protection.
2. Exchange your router
3. Fix your router (the hardest way of the 3) |

Although you have put your laptop in the DMZ, the router will still need to know where to send any info coming in to the network, so the range 2300-2400 is getting lost somewhere.
Have you opened the gamespy ports?
GameSpy Arcade
6667 TCP
3783 TCP
27900 TCP
28900 TCP
29900 TCP
29901 TCP
6515 TCP
6500 TCP |

Problem is my stupid router wont allow me to open the ports for the ip I have declared a DMZ. Its either DMZ or open ports , not both. SO I cannot open gamespy ports and have a DMZ for the same machine in my network.
Disconnecting & Changing Router isngt gonna be ever helpfull eitehr because its a combined router & dsl modem. Oh bummer, I am screwed.
I think I am gonna axe this piece of crap.
:sigh:
