Another bug, this is an explosion from off board artillery. The explosion stayed on the map for the whole game.

Thanks Tejszd, I tried signing up at the Matrix Games forums but I couldn't use two names that I tried so I gave up. You can post these if you like.

I've seen this topic in another thread but I post a screenshot here anyway. The sniper only has a firing range of 30 meters and is on a hill. Any further and the targeting indicator is blacked out. The sniper engages targets beyond 30 meters when on defend, but if you order him to shoot he'll say "target out of range".
The snipers AT capability is higher than his AP, as seen in the screenshot.

This may be a bug with CoI/CC3 (if it's in CoI it's in CC3), but despite literally thousands maybe even millions of combined hours of CC3/CoI games played, I have never seen this before, either myself or reported. Maybe somebody has somewhere? Therefore there is also the possibility that there is an issue with your system (Graphics Driver/Multimedia system etc).

Black Targetting Dot means Extremely low chance to kill (0~7%), not out of range.
Not sure about the AP/AT. AP is more 'powerful' but AT range seems longer. Why? Would need a dip into the Data File(s) I guess, but doesn't strike me as a 'bug', but perhaps a mis-valuation.

I know what the black dot means. When I order him to shoot he says "target out of range".
I've played several games now and I haven't seen an explosion stay on the map again. It was only that one time.

Selecting a target at 253metres with a Sniper:
No "Out of range" message.
Quite happy to take pot shots.
Perhaps it's a Russian sniper thing (eat your heart out Zaitsev)
So none the wiser....

I don't normally issue an order to shoot, as it gives away the snipers position. The snipers are quite effective, they engage targets well over 400m when on defend. I'll need to do some more testing...
The bar at the bottom indicating AT/AP should be corrected (AT meaning light armored vehicles), AP should have a much longer range.

Snipers can be deadly! A fun task is to try and take out enemy AT crew, and when in AI mode, they tend to target Commanders very nicely! Once spotted, they can have a bad time though unless in good cover, and it's not a good idea to leave them unattended if they do get spotted. I don't use them a lot, but I do think they are very potent used wisely...

The targeting indicator/dot shouldn't go from green up to 30m to black beyond 30m. It should gradually get worse.

When I formatted and reinstalled Windows XP last year, thats when I installed all the latest drivers. I haven't uninstalled any and reinstalled any drivers since. I keep my system kept clean and I don't fix what's not broken. All my CC games (CC4, CC5, WaR and CoI) run excellent, apart from the games known bugs, and I have no troubles with my other games.
