These bodies were found in Britain during road construction. DNA says that the bones are of Scandinavian origin

Hypothisis is a Viking raiding party caught out

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/england/dorset/8563719.stm

No mercy was shown here, but I guess the raiding party were not there for a tea party

(NFL joke)

Very interesting..
Looks like a case for the International court this one.....were the Anglo Saxons guilty of some sort of 'war crime' ...did they overreact to the rape and pillage of the wicked Norsemen? Razz

Maybe Brussels could give us a lead here and set up a inquiry on this (well funded by taxpayers cash of course) ...after a few years (decades) of sifting the evidence a report could be compiled on the activities of the Norse and the interaction of the Anglo Saxons...

However being so far South in Britain it could be that these cruel acts were not committed by Anglo Saxons, but were done by remnants of the indiginous Britons who were pushed into these regions by the Saxons, Angles and Jutes themselves. Being committed merely in an attempt to blacken the name of the Anglo Saxons? Confused

Although it is alleged that the Norseman indulged in some sort of dark age type of 'International Football holiganism' on an organised scale, there are now emerging revisionalist historians who challenge this once widely believed fact. They state that the object of the Norse was not to harm their neighbours, and that they only really wanted peace, understanding and a chance to spread their culture....So therefore:-

The carrying of large axes was not a sign of evil intent, but that they simply wished to help the locals in tree felling operations.....

The burning of settlements? well that was just something that was unavoidable given that most houses were made of wood and straw .....and well one always knows that parties can get out of hand sometimes....

Carrying off of valuables....well it was hard to understand the value of a strange currency before the wise adoption of the Euro, so mistakes in change could be easily made...

The abduction of women you might ask? well the jolly Norse were so proud of their own country they wished to show the young ladies their home and introduce them to their parents, and considering how much is now spent by people now on Baltic cruises, it seems a very nice thing to do free of charge.

Definately something that needs to be investigated futher  Laughing

Cheers
Ronson

In August of 2004, Zappi, Homba, Bambam887, RedScorpion and MOOXE all pitched
in to create this Close Combat site. I would to thank all the people who have visited and
found this site to thier liking. I hope you had time to check out some of the great Close Combat
mods and our forums. I'd also like to thank all the members of our volunteer staff that have
helped over the years, and all our users that contributed to this site!
